About the Author
Alice James (Author) Alice James joined Usborne after working in primary schools for a while. She absolutely loves science, and over the years has lived with chimps, spent a month in the rainforest, studied Biology at Oxford University, and grown 200 carnivorous plants (not necessarily in that order). Whilst at Usborne Alice has worked on books on all kinds of science topics, from space to energy to the periodic table. Jerome Martin (Author) Jerome Martin has written children's books about science, history, Shakespeare and food. Before joining Usborne in 2014, he spent a decade studying literature at Harvard, Cambridge and the University of Iowa, and several years behaving responsibly in a copywriting office. Now, he spends his working hours researching delightful and amazing facts, his evening hours parenting two children, and the minutes in-between writing poetry. Rachel Firth (Author) Rachel spent 11 years studying and teaching philosophy at the universities of London and Oxford before joining Usborne. Since then she has written books on subjects ranging from knights, to food, to philosophy, as well as retelling folk stories, and writing children's versions of numerous novels. Rose Hall (Author) Rose grew up in Northumberland, studied Physiology at Oxford and looked after orphaned orangutans for a bit. She worked in the charity sector for ten years, writing about issues from renewable energy, to the safety of workers in Bangladesh. For Usborne, she's written books about engineering, business, computers and the environment.

I'm not a child.. enjoying the large colourful thicker pages in a hardback. Whoever reads this series is likely to find it immensely pleasurable and generally informative, a!though I have not fact checked them..just enjoying the snippets I get to read.

The idea is great but the facts needs double checking
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 January 2021Verified Purchase
The book is engaging and have fun stuff to attracts the young readers. But some of the facts are basically wrong or far from accuracy. The cost of 1g of Saffron is completely off compared to gold or some mis-information about penicillin ... there are just a few we found out in the first 50 pages or so.

More than you can expect
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 June 2020Verified Purchase
Brilliant book. I was not expecting such a quality for this price. Fact are proper facts not just repeats of basics already heard facts. I surprised myself browsing through the book after the kids went to bed and read it for a good hour. Simple processes are very well and simply explained. I am now looking to buy the other ones if the collection.
