88 films did an amazing job with this release, The film and restoration is all 5 stars. My only problem is that this copy is not the Limited edition copy that's used as the product photo. I naturally assumed I was getting the 0 slip cover and poster that comes with the limited release only to get the regular copy without the poster. Product is incorrectly advertised.

Fantastic kung fu movie!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 July 2021Verified Purchase
The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter is a film I wish I had heard of sooner. It's a fast paced kung fu movie starring Gordon Liu. The movie was originally released as a Shaw Brothers film in 1984. It was directed by Lau Kar-leung and features some great music from Stephen Shing. The film starts with Yueng Yip and his sons being ambushed where all but two are killed. One is driven mad (6th son, played by Alexander Fu) and another in his grief joins a monastery (5th son, played by Gordon Liu). The plot features themes of inner turmoil and revenge, resulting in a great stereotypical battle at the end.
Like a lot of my Asian cinema purchases, I went into this one blind. I hadn't a scoobie about what was going to happen. To my surprise, not only was this film extremely fast paced, but it is possibly one of the bloodiest kung fu movies I have ever seen. The action sequences are all very well done. I loved the focus on the pole arm style, quite a refreshing change from the speedy punches and flying kicks. The story was easy enough to follow. The characters had interesting contrasting personalities and the bad guy was a great love to hate sort of character. At the time I wondered why 6th Son disappeared from the story. Sadly, I later found out that Alexander Fu died in a car accident during the making of the film. A terrible shame, the man shows some impressive skill when he's on screen. There was a lot of potential there but his role in the finale was given to another character and was my only true gripe for the film.
The 88 Films release of The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter looks really nice. I thought it looked good and sharp. There is some great clarity and a lot of colours. All the reds and blues etc really pop out of the screen, which is great considering the colourful nature of the outfit design. The audio was consistently good throughout. There was a lot of the usual whooshing, swooshing, smacks and clangs that you'd expect from a movie like this. All of which were of a good standard. The English dubbing is quite funny. It's daft and definitely not the ideal way to watch the film. However, if you're wanting a laugh as a second viewing, it's a great way to do it. Sadly, there's no extras which leaves the disc bare bones. A bit of a shame, as you'd think a film this good would have had something to show for itself.
I really loved The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter and it had me buying up more 88 Film releases. It's fast paced, it's extremely colourful, the acting is really good and the action is fantastic. This is one film that I would highly recommend to kung fu/action movie fans. This is a great release and well worth the asking price.

88 films Blu-ray release of The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter. This film was released by the Shaw Brothers studio in 1984. It was directed by the legendary Lau Kar-Leung and starred Gordon Lui, Alexander Fu Sheng, Lily Li, Kara Hui, Philip Ko and Johnny Wang amongst a whole host of others. This is a classic kung fu movie in every sense. The picture and sound quality I will give 5 out 5 stars, I am hoping that these Gordon Lui films the 36th Chamber of Shaolin, Dirty ho and Martial Club all get released on blu-ray.

Absolutely Great Film, wrong product Picture (No Slip)

Hello ladies, gentleman.
The movie itself diserves 5 stars, honestly. 88 Films did an Amazing job with this one (and others).
It's more an alert for collectors. The picture of the Product is showing a Slipcover, but i received the basic version. Just a heads up!
