Clear singing and a simple tune repeated

Repetitive with each letter on the same tune but alternating male and female singers. Not objectionable but not inspiring.

I am in a similar situation to the reviewer Dinah93 in that my son is only 9 months old and so I thought this CD may have been a bit ambitious to start him off so early on but he smiles as soon as I put it on and it must be the singing as he loves to listen to this and to the 1,2,3 CD by the same makers. We tend to listen to this mostly in the car as it keeps him amused when we are out and about which is a small sacrifice instead of listening to the radio or one of my CD's.
There is no track listing on the back of the CD cover as most CD's have and whilest in the car CD player there are no track numbers showing, on the CD player at home there is and it lists there as being 27 tracks and the total running time as 70minutes 59seconds which is not the advertised 35minutes run time. The CD runs through the ABC song and then does each individual letter one at a time finishing off with the ABC song at the end again. Rather than have new tunes made up for each letter they have adapted well known tunes such as twinkle twinkle little star etc and give the letter an item such as B is for Bell and sing a song along to that tune in addition to showing the phonetic sound for each letter. There are two singers on the CD, a man and a woman and they take it in turns to sing and describe each letter.
A good CD to help your little one learn the alphabet and even though my son is a bit young for this at the moment the catchy tunes and singers voices have him smiling and hopefully as I'm introducing him to this early it may help him pick up words sooner and the CD will be being played for a few years to come I'm sure.

Music soothes the savage child...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2012
There's a fundamental question any parent has to ask about children's music - just how annoying is this going to be the 157th time I hear it? Thankfully this does seem to have been considered when preparing this ABC Learn the Alphabet CD and the music is more bearable than most. Admittedly the songs are repetitive, which young kids tend to love, but the arrangements are generally quite laid-back and relaxed - a sort of Junior Easy-Listening perhaps? The backing music kept reminding me of an old steam calliope, it has the same relentless cheer, but maybe that's just me? The vocals are very earnest and succinct without being too strident and although Adele has nothing to worry about it's all more tolerable than you might expect.
There's no track listing included with this CD but it's all quite straightforward - after the introductory 'Sing the Alphabet' song there's one track for every letter of the alphabet. Each song introduces a letter with a simple phrase (much repeated) like "Z is for zip" then ends with a reprise of the Alphabet Song before moving on to the next letter. They cheat a bit with the letter 'X' which is apparently "at the end of box" rather than the beginning of 'xylophone' - somewhat ironic when there's something that sounds suspiciously like a xylophone plinky-plonking in the background throughout the CD. After a while the songs could still drive you a bit crazy, especially on longer car journeys and wet weekends, but then again would you rather the kids were singing and learning or shouting and grumbling?

I think the alphabet one of these CDs (there's also one for numbers) is the best. There is a separate song for each letter of the alphabet, comprising a familiar nursery rhyme tune, but with new words. Each letter has a little introduction, where the listening child (and adults!) are encouraged to pronounce the letter out loud. I really liked this, as did my kid! It's quite fun shouting in the car A-A-A-A-A!
then there is a little song (as described) on the subject of ants, for A; bells, for B; etc etc. And a bit of revision at the end of the song of the sound you've been learning and the letter's name.
I like the fact that it combines both the name of the letter and the sound - they are going to have to learn them both (and their connection) eventually and this is a really fun way to do it. I didn't feel it was too advanced for my almost three year old - he really liked it and liked the little song, and because he knows all the tunes already I feel we should learn them quite quickly.
I thought it showed quite a lot of thought by someone with some brains and experience of teaching reading, and that it was also fairly enjoyable musically.
For the purpose of learning the alphabet and the phonic sounds, I think it's a good acquisition.
