The Show That Changed Television Forever!
Reviewed in Canada on 14 August 2018Verified Purchase
All in the family is without question one of the greatest T.V. sitcoms ever created. It has lasted the test of time 38 years after it's final episode aired on television in April of 1979. Is what makes the show so great is that it is totally, completely, POLITICALLY INCORRECT.
The show is fearless in dealing with subject matter and topics that could never make it onto the television shows of today. The acting is top notch, the sets are comforting, and you delve deep into the shows episodes you can't help but feel like you are "in the family" yourself. I recommend this show not only for the generation that grew up with it, but the generation that grew up after it (generation X ), and even the generations that have come since. It's an important part of TV history, and the young generation of today need to see and hear, and understand that Political Correctness is not OK in a free society.

Wonderful Show. Still Topical Even Today
Reviewed in Canada on 5 June 2021Verified Purchase
This show is hysterical. Absolutely intelligent writing. By today's "standards" it would be deemed offensive, but because someone is offended by something that doesn't make them right. It's all about race, and politics, and outdated beliefs of its older characters to the current beliefs of the younger characters, the time, and its changing views. The jokes are not meant to be malicious, derogatory, or to further some ideal of a racist agenda. Even the characters of color and different cultures have misguided and uneducated views of the other characters. It was never about one hateful white guy. The George Jefferson character, who was first introduced on this show, was equally offensive and closed minded as his Archie counterpart. This show touched on so many things other than race and religion. Do we forget Divine played Edith transgender friend and was killed in a hate crime? Archie may not have understood the characters lifestyle, but he never wished her dead. It touched on women's rights whether for equality or a say over their bodies. It was a show that was written when a joke was a joke and nothing more. Before people decided to be offended by everything. It's really disturbing that a show that created conversations and opened our eyes to so much in a humorous way, seems to be looked at with closed eyes and minds. It's a shame that people are expected to censor themselves to accommodate other people's ignorance. This show is intelligent. Poignant. Hysterical. Heartwarming. And important. Highly recommend.

Great classic
Reviewed in Canada on 19 April 2018Verified Purchase
They just don't have stuff like this on television anymore. Such a great, hilarious classic. This complete series is definitely worth owning for lovers of this show. The packaging can be a little tight, but other than that the box, cases, discs, video and audio are all of good quality. This box set includes a little 40 page booklet all about the show which is interesting to read and has nice pictures or, "graphics," if I can call it that, as well as plenty of good special/bonus features, including both the original pilots with a different actor and actress for mike and Gloria, an episode from the spin-off show, "Gloria," a documentary, and more. I definitely recommend this collection to enjoy this classic show any time you please.

Damaged discs
Reviewed in Canada on 19 September 2018Verified Purchase
Some of the discs are unusable as they are scratched up. Another used product sold as 'new'. This is the second damaged DVD set that I got. Not very happy with this.
