Product description
Leave it to legendary funnyman Gene Wilder (Blazing Saddles) to write, direct, and star in an uproarious Sherlock Holmes mystery film spoof that goes far beyond the scope of elementary comedies. After spending decades living in the shadow of his more famous and successful sibling, Consulting Detective Sigerson Holmes (Wilder) is called upon to help solve a crucial case that leads him on a hilarious trail of false identities, stolen documents, secret codes and exposed backsides. Featuring an outrageous ensemble cast that includes Madeline Kahn (High Anxiety) as the seductive singer, Marty Feldman (Young Frankenstein) as Holmes bug-eyed assistant, and Dom DeLuise (History of the World: Part I) as an eccentric opera star turned blackmailer, this fun-filled caper packs a slew of clues and loads of laughs which The New York Times called A Charming Slapstick Comedy . Co-starring Leo McKern (Rumpole of the Bailey), Roy Kinnear (The Bed Sitting Room) and John Le Mesurier (The Italian Job).
Bonus Features: Audio commentary by star/writer/director Gene Wilder | Trailers

The plot revolves around a purloined document and how Sherlock Holmes passes the case on to his younger brother, Sigerson (Wilder) to solve it. To do so, he’s aided by a detective with a photographic sense of hearing (Feldman) and an untruthful music-hall artiste, Madeline Khan. They’re up against Professor Moriarty (Leo McKern) and a camp opera singer, Dom DeLuise and the resulting shambles was one which I thought was side-splittingly funny, particularly the rendition of Verdi’s opera, Un Ballo in Maschera.
Gene Wilder had been a reputable fencer, Madeline Khan had trained as an opera singer and both are used to great effect in this film which has a great score by John Morris.
Judging by the other reviews, it’s certainly not everybody’s cup of tea – but it is mine.

Not to forget Douglas Wilmer & Nigel Stock playing their original roles as Holmes & Watson.

It's not in the league of Young Frankenstein but worth the watch. Recommend.
