Though I wish Linsey would make Parker's daughter come into it more......she could be an asset to the books....but having said that...I still loved reading this book!!!!!

This is the first of Linsey Lanier’s novels that I have ever read, so I had not been filled in on the background of Miranda Steele or her husband, Parker. In some ways, this meant my enjoyment was lacking as there were several references to things that had gone before which meant nothing to me, and therefore seemed totally irrelevant. At the same time, there was too much emphasis put on the relationship between Steele and Parker as a couple, which again seemed irrelevant and at times made the story more like a romance than a thriller and threated to detract from the main focus of the novel.

Sadly, the plot itself was extremely simple and contrived and, with no second thread to the storyline, made it at times far too obvious and boring. It didn’t really hold my attention and I had to force myself to continue reading. Right from the start I had a pretty good idea who the killer was, and although there was a slight twist at the very end, I still had it all pretty much figured out long before the investigation team did. I did not really find the characters that interesting or even believable and a lot of what they said and did was extremely clichéd. Although, the simplicity of the story made it a fast read and one that I was pleased to get to the end of, the several inconsistencies in the narrative didn’t help much.

I am a reader who likes to feel challenged when I sit down to read a novel and I felt that this didn’t deliver that.

I was quite disappointed with this formulaic murder mystery.thLas Vegas location was vividly described and the PIi Couple of Parker and Madison were likeable but I wanted something more from the murder investigation than plain guesswork without any supporting evidence. The police were totally inept as usual and that plotline is getting so very old. New characters were thrown in just to make the story work but the whole thing was very contrived. This loving couple isn't for me. I want a lot more from a murder story I'm afraid.edpecially more thought put into the plot.

I quite liked this book though I did get quite irritated with the schmaltz. I expected a crime novel not a love story. It got a bit over the top on occasion which made me flick ahead
If I had known it was going to be all soppy with outpourings of love, I would never have read it which would have been a bit of a shame cos without the sloppy sop it was quite a good story. It's more of a made for TV afternoon shmaltzy film rather than a blockbuster. Worth a read if you can ignore the cringy bits.

I probably won't read anything else by this author.

My lack of 1 star was based on the confusing snippets from past books.E.g. Wendy, Mc Kenzie' the ex husband and months spent on hospital.THe finding of her missing child and how that came to be. However despite that, this is a brilliant and stand alonestory.
