Product description
One of the greatest directors of the 1980s, John Landis (The Blues Brothers, Trading Places), expertly combines macabre horror with dark humour in the lycanthropic classic, An American Werewolf in London.
American tourists David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) are savaged by an unidentified vicious animal whilst hiking on the Yorkshire Moors. David awakes in a London hospital to find his friend dead and his life in disarray. Retiring to the home of a beautiful nurse (Jenny Agutter, Walkabout) to recuperate, he soon experiences disturbing changes to his mind and body, undergoing a full-moon transformation that will unleash terror on the streets of the capital...
An American Werewolf in London had audiences howling with laughter and recoiling in terror upon its cinema release. Landis film has gone on to become one of the most important horror films of its decade, rightly lauded for its masterful set-pieces, uniquely unsettling atmosphere and Rick Bakers ground-breaking, Oscar-winning special makeup effects. Now restored in 4K, and presented with an abundance of extra features, this big beast of horror can be devoured as never before...

This is the movie every second other film since has tried and not succeeded.

My twin boys absolutely loved it and even thought the special effects were extremely good for a movie that is 40 years old. So if that impresses teenagers these days it must be a classic!

A beautiful 4K scan of the OCN has been supplemented by bonus features old and new in a handsome hardbox package filled with other goodies.
At long, long last this popular culture masterpiece has been properly honoured - NOT by Universal, ironically, but by a small independent UK label. About -bloody-time.
BRAVO, Arrow!

This edition has been beautifully restored and looks pristine on the screen. I'm not going to remark on the film's content, as it has such a cult following, other than to say that the script, like the technical presentation, has aged very well indeed and never feels dated (although it is obviously in-period).
The disc contains an absolute wealth of bonus material, including two separate narration tracks, both of which are fascinating and amusing. The accompanying feature documentaries alone are worth the purchase cost.
An outstanding disc, considering both the quality of the transfer and the accompanying materials.

The film itself retains its fame as a milestone in the horror comedy genre rather than a legitimately great film by today's standards. At times it is questionably acted, fails to find the right balance between horror and comedy and as a whole feels unfinished, with the characters left largely unexplored. The film did serve as inspiration however for the greatest in the genre, Shaun of the Dead, which is much more relatable for modern audiences and I can much more confidently recommend.

Picture quality is very good to say how old the film is. It's the best it has ever looked. I watched it on my LG OLED and colours were punchy and the picture quality was nice and sharp. There is grain still but that's because it was shot on film so pretty normal.
Overall a perfect package. The artwork on the box makes it worth it alone. 100% recommend. 10/10
