All of the above accompany the reader of this book, ending with huge admiration for the author whose life experience encompasses all of the above, but whose honesty and integrity shines through without a hint at any time of self sympathy. It’s certainly a book which offers an insight into a difficult subject and should be essential reading for anyone caring for and working with neglected children.
A heartbreaking memoir, well written so openly and with brutal honesty. Despite it being a very difficult subject to read about (and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it must have been to write!) it is also incredibly inspiring due to how far Lisbeth has come in spite of, and perhaps because of, her past. I think it’s a really important book for people to read to raise awareness of abuse and also to inspire change!
I chose the book has I work in education and thought it would help me understand more about some off the children I come across in my work.I read that the author had written it from her own experiences good and bad and was still able to survive and achieve her goals.Couldn't put this book down.It helped me understand some of the anger, desperation and needs of children that find themselves in situations of neglect.
It’s rather difficult to understand how a small child can go through so much and yet be clever enough to hide her inner most fears and still surface as a well educated adult and help her own children to become rounded individuals surround by love and determinative - lots of evil to overcome and adherent behaviour such a fantastic read although upsetting and very difficult to believe
This was a very hard read, I cried when reading a lot of this book because I could relate to so many of the things that happened. I am so glad Lisbeth has found love n now has a beautiful family. I hope that anyone who reads this book, will be able to recognize abuse if they ever see it.
Although at time’s difficult to read, this true story was compelling from the first words. I read the book in one sitting. As someone who can relate to some of the content I found the way in which Lisbeth overcame such adversity really heartening. There is a depth of self awareness here that shows that despite truly appalling circumstances there is always hope. I fundamentally agree that children need to be heard, no matter how uncomfortable or difficult the subject, it really is a vital step in them realising that they matter.
A well written account of a traumatic time. It signifies the fact that with the right support the cycle can be broken, as shown in the fact that the brothers had a different outcome. It also shows that despite the lack of protection from her mother, the tie was not broken. She is right that the trauma will never disappear, but she has been able to turn a negative into a positive. She is brave to record this.
I enjoyed this memoir of a woman who had a rather challenging upbringing. The author admits she doesn't remember everything from her early days, and so her younger years are a lot more vague than her teenage years. I enjoyed it.
All I advise is LOOK AT HER PICTURE AT THE BACK — she's smiling and gorgeous, giving hope to anyone who's been through a hellish existence. Thank you for sparkling so you can spark the fires of others to overcome. Be well Lisbeth! Love from someone who cares truly enough to reach out and help!
