In this animated adventure comedy, The Angry Birds Movie, we finally find out why the birds are so angry. The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red, a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck, and the volatile Bomb have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to
Meet the Angry Birds and their friends
Red is an angry bird. He lives on Bird Island, a world populated with the most naively happy characters imaginable – so, needless to say, Red doesn't fit in. The birds' cheery, carefree lives are in stark contrast to Red's own: he has few friends, can’t hold down a job thanks to his uncontrollable temper and lives alone on the outskirts of town. On top of this, he’s missing the basic social skills needed to fully connect with others. Aware that he is different from everyone else, he tries to mask his discomfort with a sarcastic and aloof attitude, which only serves to estrange him further. What he really wants, but doesn’t know yet, is a sense of acceptance. Red isn’t afraid to ask the difficult questions, pushing where others are reluctant to push.
Everything about Chuck is speedy. He thinks fast, talks fast and moves even faster. He zips around the island in a flash. Chuck speaks with a high-pitched voice that lacks a filtering mechanism – so you never know just what will come out. His frenetic energy has him jumping from one thought to the next without waiting for anyone to catch up. Chuck is impulsive and mercurial, and intent on having friends.
He's the only bird on the island diagnosed with IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder), which causes him to literally explode when surprised or stressed. He's determined to gain control of his IED, but still has a long way to go. Because of his unpredictable and explosive power, Bomb is a much more cautious bird than the others, with a slow and ponderous way of speaking.
Leonard is the charming and charismatic spokesman for all of the pigs. A combination of an international ambassador and a travelling salesman/huckster, Leonard immediately wins over the birds with his folksy, warm personality. He speaks with sincerity and enthusiasm as he gives naïve and trusting birds his many gifts from Piggy Island.. They are blown away by his showmanship and fully welcome the pigs into their community. However, we begin to detect some chilly cracks beneath Leonard’s over-sized, diplomatic grin. Leonard is smarter than he looks, and this friendliness could be a ruse for a deeper, darker plan.
Clay Kaytis directs this animated children's feature based on the popular mobile app game. Angry birds Red (voice of Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad) and Bomb (Danny McBride) live on a remote island populated by other flightless birds. Used to being shunned by their fellow birds, outsiders Red, Chuck and Bomb have learned to take care of themselves. When King Pig Leonard (Bill Hader) and his crew arrive onto the island shrouded in mystery and secrets, it is clear something is being planned and the three outcasts decide to try to figure out what's going on. The all-star cast also includes Peter Dinklage, Ike Barinholtz, Maya Rudolph and Kate McKinnon.
