From the Ashes (Force of Nature Book 1) Kindle Edition
After a lifetime of animosity and indifference from the supernatural community, she thought she'd finally found a home with the vampire king’s enforcers. Then the dark and mysterious Merc walks into her life, and it takes a disastrous turn for the worse.
Now under attack by enemies both known and unknown, Piper has little choice but to flee her refuge—and start over in a place few vampires ever go. Rural Alaska seemed to fit the bill, except for Knox and his crew of werewolves. The pack shares a connection with Piper that few of them can explain, and none of them can escape. With time running out for answers, Piper must fight the demons of her past to ensure her future—or die trying.

From the Ashes throws you right into Piper's life. She sees herself as the weak link as she is surrounded by one of the strongest sects of supernaturals; the Vampire Enforces. She sees some of them as family and some as just the people she lives with, either way, she has been tentatively accepted into their community. Piper is a walking, talking, breathing danger magnet; not to mention she doesnt really fit in with any of them, but is more than just human. Piper's life has never been easy, she was an orphan as a baby and forever on the fringe of two worlds as a child and adult. The story follows the events that follow Piper after Merc is introduced into her life, when the Supernatural treaties start to fray, when Knox becomes apart of her life and when she finally gets introduced to her powers.
The plot forever kept me guessing, i had no idea what was going to happen. Every time i was hit was a huge event i had to double check that i wasnt at the end because i was sure no-one would be that cruel as to end the story after each one of those. Thankfully, i was right, the author managed to wrap up so many things before the end of the book. However there is much to be answered in the next book.
Piper as a character initially got on my nerves purely for the fact that she continued to see herself as a victim but wouldnt do anything to explore her magic or learn to fight for herself. As the book went on you got to see why she was like that, and you did see her develop in strength. By the end of the book i did enjoy her as a character and i am ready to see her be a badass in the next book.
I loved her relationship is Jase and Dean; they were so lovely and the family dynamic between them all was truly beautiful to read.
Merc, what can i say about Merc without spoiling anything? Well i liked him in the beginning, and i liked him in the end. I think in the beginning he was a really interesting character that was so twisted up, even if he wasnt romantically involved in this series, i would still want to read about him. I'm not excusing his actions, but after getting an explanation, im not going to hold his actions and words against him.
Knox; jeez he was exactly what the story needed by the time he came around. Like Merc, irregardless of his significance in this story, i would still want to read all about him. Knox was a strong, lovely, manly character. His Alpha-ness was super hot!
Grizz, the cutest bear in the whole world is possibly one of the cutest characters i have ever come across!!! I cant wait to read more about Grizz!!!
I just loved everything about this book! I need the next one right this second! How am i going to stand waiting till August 11?!
The main character Piper is weak and likes to wallow, then likes to act irrationally on occasion. She's also too oblivious about what her powers are. There's not enough background story or information - she lives in a hidden mansion in New York with vampires but there's no explanation as to how that actually happened or how many others live there or why they live there. After the tall brooding vampire is suddenly forced to choose a mage and chooses Piper... I quit.
Unfortunately it was all downhill from there and I barely finished the book. The cheesy dialogue was the first sign of impending doom. Confirmation came when the insta love plot with suitor number 1- Vampire Merc happened. After that I knew the struggle was about to become real.
In a nutshell, Piper is a supernatural with undiscovered powers. For some reason a warlock named Kingston has a vendetta against her which is never really explained. In fact, the only explanation is that he hates her weakness. He must REALLY hate weakness because he develops a stalkerish obsession to destroy her and recruit others to do so too. I was so confused. Surely the story couldn't be that flimsy.
As predicted Merc, the strong silent hunk turns out to be her bonded mate and within ten pages is somehow in love with her. Arrghh...! Spoiler alert - One twist i did not predict is that he tries to kill her and for that I give the second star.
Anyway after her brush with domestic violence Piper runs off to Alaska and meets suitor number 2 - an Alpha wolf named Knox(I'm not joking with the cliches). He also falls in love with her after knowing her for two seconds. Piper must have some Angelina Jolie mojo going on because Knox is willing to risk himself and his pack to protect her against Kingston's weakness fetish (At this point I was getting pretty annoyed that I had gotten too far into the book to stop and wishing I hadn't started).
Anyway a convoluted series of events continues which eventually ends with a showdown of all parties. Piper demonstrates some hint of her fabulous power and predictably saves the day.
I skipped through the last part of the book and I'm going to have to give book 2 a miss.

From bonding with Merc after hardly knowing him and quickly falling in love, It's only really about 3 chapters later that she's attracted to another man, moved on from Merc and all of a sudden has the loyalty of an entire pack that's she's only eaten dinner with. once. To me it just felt somewht incomprhensible that any real feelings could of actually developed between any of the characters after only knowing eachother for a few days.
I did find the beginning of the book a little slow going though and it did take me a few chapters to really get into enjoying this book. It is one that I would go back and re read again though. I liked the character growth we saw with Piper through the book and even though we still don't know what Piper really is, at the end she did show us that she's a force to reckoned with and can be one badass chick if she needs to be. I thought that the way the author has added in both Merc and Know was interesting and different. I'm not going to give anything of the book away in this review as I hate spoilers, but I do hope that they both still play a major part in Pipers life in the next book and beyond. There were some great characters in this book and I'm not sure whether Dean, Jase or Kat is my favourite. I think I'll just say that all three of them are my favourites and I loved there support of Piper as she really needs people like them in her life.
This book doesn't end on a cliffhanger but it does leave you with a lot of unanswered questions. I really can't wait to read the next book in the series and if I could have it in my hands right now then I'd be a happy bunny. Alas, the author is still writing it so I guess I'll just have to try and be patient. I give this book five stars as I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone as one of those books you just need to read.
Then From The Ashes was released!!! OMG I was hooked from the first page! She started the book as it continued, leaving me with my heart in my mouth itching to continue to read until the end!! Piper is an amazing character who you're rooting for from the start!! You'll scream, sob, laugh and be left wanting more..... Enjoy it!! Hell I LOVED it
The story gripped me from the beginning with the dark figure attacking the leading lady and her calling on her unknown powers for help.
A war is brewing in the supernatural world and no one knows who they can trust. Piper has been running all her life but sooner or later she is going to have to stop, and embrace her future.
It was a very dramatic storyline of love, betrayal and violence outbursts.
I read this book into the wee small hours, because I just couldn't put it down. Piper's story had me from page one, it's fast paced action hooked me and didn't let go, there were vampires, warlocks and werewolves galore, enough for all to feast on.
Bring on book 2 Amber, I can't wait!!
