I bought this as a recommendation from Reece’s book club and I always love an interesting love story, but this book is sooooo much more.
I brought it on holiday with me with the intention of leaving for another holiday goer in the resort so I had room for souvenirs to take home - but I can’t bare to part with it. It’s a wonderful book that I can’t stop thinking about.

** spoiler alert ** People in reviews seem to be disappointed by the love story aspect of this book... but I would argue that it is brilliant. The love is between the female lead and her dream (surgery) with the more typical love interests taking a back seat for the majority of the plot. It has a complete gothic vibe, also feeding into the dark academia aesthetic which really adds to the atmosphere. The big pay off is largely well done, keeping suspense and constantly turning you different ways with the big twists being built up from the start. The biggest twist, however, feels more than a little out of place. It would have been best to leave it after the passage of Jacks court hearing.

I probably would have bought this book just to support Dana Schwartz after enjoying every single one of her podcast episodes. I am not one much for YA, but after reading the kindle sample, I was absolutely hooked. I immensely enjoyed the story, even if I would have preferred a different, less fantastical, ending.
