Return to the world of The Bridge Kingdom in this sensuous fantasy full of romance and intrigue that is perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Silver Flames.
A soldier raised as heir to an empire, Zarrah is motivated by two truths. The first is that the Veliant family murdered her mother. And the second is that her pursuit of vengeance will put every last one of them in their graves.
The Endless War between Maridrina and Valcotta has raged for generations, leaving thousands of Zarrah’s people dead and countless more orphaned. So when she’s given command of the contested city of Nerastis, Zarrah is prepared to do whatever it takes to destroy the Maridrinian forces who oppose her. And to kill the Veliant prince who leads them.
Yet a chance encounter with an anonymous, and handsome, Maridrinian causes Zarrah to question whether the violence she’s perpetrated is justice or a crime. And as she continues to meet the nameless man each night, she finds common ground - and fiery passion - in his arms.
But when identities are revealed, Zarrah must decide whether to embrace a chance at peace...or march to the drums of war.

I listened to the audiobook version which was pretty good but there were a couple of editing problems which caused me minor heart attacks. Dual male/female narration from Keris's and Zarrah's points of view.
The events in book #3 run in parallel with The Traitor Queen. Think you know the story? Nope, you will be surprised! I was on my toes the whole time, guessing on the moves from each players!
The best thing about this book is undoubtedly Keris. He is not the usual hero you will find. He is bookish, extremely intelligent and also very idealistic. He also does not have the same sense of honor as Airen, which makes him a deliciously morally grey character. One that would sacrifice everything to save the woman he loves.
Yes there is a cliff hanger at the end of Book 3, but it is worth reading the book and the wait. Don't keep it off! This book delivers.
You will like this if you like tropes such as mistaken identity, mysterious heroes / heroines , enemies to lovers. Read it if you like the original Bridge Kingdom series (you will have an insight to Lara / Airen from other characters POV), From Blood and Ashes, ACOTAR...

I often think that it is much harder to write convincing plots for YA Fantasies that don’t involve (much) magic, because magic can explain away or overcome situations that are difficult to convincingly tackle without ‘magical help’ (though I have read many that are ludicrous and unconvincing even with the extra help provided by magic!). Magic can also make characters seem more interesting and important than they actually are (if you stripped them of their magic). The author has to be far more creative in their non-magical plot planning and and character creation, and Danielle L Jensen manages to do just that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Bridge Kingdom and Dark Shores series so far and can’t wait for the next books. I love the characters: They have depths, are conflicted, sometimes I dislike them, but they are never boring or incongruent – the latter being a common phenomenon in YA Fantasy, I have noticed, often making it hard to relate to characters.
Not with Danielle L Jensen, however. Excellent story telling, great characters.
One of the best YA Fantasy writers I have read.

I thought the first two books couldn't be topped, but this book is just as good and exciting as the first two.
This book is incredibly exciting, gripping and entertaining.
A love story that grabs you and makes you think and dream about it constantly.
I didn't think Keris and Zarrah's story would captivate me as much as Aren's and Lara's did, but Gosh! it absolutely did.
This book is an action-packed, fast-paced page-turner.
Unbelievable emotional and fascinating story about love between enemies, who have found a bond through the same ideals and beliefs and as a result fall in love with each other.
I love Keris and that he never tries to talk Zarrah into anything.
He sees her as an equal from the start, even before he knows who she is. Despite his family history, he is completely different from the rest of the family.
Zarrah is a warrior and it's nice to see her slowly changing.
From the puppet her aunt tried to raise according to her beliefs, to a free-thinking and wise leader.
If you like fantasy romances, reading this book is definitely a must!
It's not just a love story, it's an adventure through seas and different countries.
I love this book and the series so much!
The only downside is that unfortunately, this is a book 1 of their story and ends on a cliffhanger :-(
I hope we don't have to wait long for the next book because I'm sitting here thinking about it all the time

Seriously I have no words, this series has become so dear to my heart and I swear it will be the death of me.
I already absolutely adored Zarrah from what we had seen of her in The traitor queen but I was on the fence about Keris because I didn’t trust him. Turns out I would give my first born for both of them.
Danielle is an amazing writer. Her stories have a perfect mix between romance, politics and intrigue. It was also really nice to fill in the gaps we didn’t have the answers for as things were happening in the second book. I think it’s a great idea to make a series but not have the same characters as the narrators of all the books, it gives us a chance to see all perspectives and it doesn’t get repetitive, at least in my opinion.
This story was filled with so many twists and turns and I was really nervous throughout the whole book expecting bad things to happen lol and guess what? It did!! Danielle is going to have to pay for my therapy sessions after this. For God’s sake, all Keris wanted was peace and to read books about stars to his girl, is that too much to ask?
I demand the next book to be out right now because it’s going to be iconic, I can feel it in my soul, plus I need answers!!!!!! I beg you please go read this series and suffer with the rest of us!!
