I owe a confession: I bought this film only due Mia Wasikowska. She's a truly sensational actor, who able to act anything and anyone. Her playlist is already very long (despite she is just 32-year-old), and includes many different roles. From classics as 'Jane Eyre', 'Madame Bovary', 'Alice in Wonderland', 'The Double', through dark comedies as 'Judy and Punch', 'Stoker', 'Maps to the Stars', 'Damsel', 'Only Lovers Left Alive', to masterpieces as 'Piercing', 'Blackbird', and finally 'Bergman Island' (and that list is far from complete).
I admire simply everything on her. I love her delicate voice, her lovely grimaces, her enchanting hazel eyes, her fine arching mouth, her "standard" half-long-bob blonde haircut (which is extremely suits on her), and finally, her dazzling inner grace! Ms. Wasikowska is much more beautiful in every single way than any celebrated bombshell.
Her appearance and behaviour both all natural and self-evident. Every time when I see her (unfortunately just in films), she's more than believeable, such natural, as if she doesn't play a role, just shows herself us.
In this film I had to wait exactly 52 minutes to her first appearance, but from that moment I couldn't believe my eyes! Her nuanced, passionate, entirely perfect play wasn't a surprise to me. But her appearance (she wore mostly simple, comfy, everyday garments), without a bra (like also Vicky Krieps) unusually brave. I don't know, it is might be Mia Hansen-Løve's director's touch, underlines female independence and equality, with this flick, but without a doubt, effective!
And soon she goes more far than that, when she leaves all of her dresses. I know, I must not describe it my feelings about that, therefore I use that innocent word: tempting. Gentle, sophisticated, real. Mia is more than captivating in her translucent, ("white/off-white/beige?") spaghetti straps dress (which she not dare wearing at the wedding, where she is guested), but she take on and off just to attract her lover (Anders Danielsen Lie)!
The movie itself have a strange mood, is happening a remote Swedish location, and the story is not too interesting (for me at least). On its own worth three stars from five. But Mia Wasikowska presence made it a worth seeing! (I'll watch many times!) I gave it top score to the film, because of her!
Technically, I'll could very welcome a Blu-ray, even 4K edition!

Product description
BERGMAN ISLAND follows a couple of American filmmakers, Chris (Vicky Krieps) and Tony (Tim Roth), who retreat to the mythical F r island for the summer. In this wild, breathtaking landscape where Bergman lived and shot his most celebrated pieces, they hope to find inspiration for their upcoming films. As days spent separately pass by, the fascination for the island operates on Chris and souvenirs of her first love resurface. Lines between reality and fiction will then progressively blur and tear the couple even more apart.
