Berserk by Kentaro Miura is an absolute masterpiece, not just of Manga, but of any piece of fiction ever conceived. It has been a huge part of my life since I first stumbled upon it in 2002 as an 18 year old. I own all 39 current volumes and have been eagerly awaiting this Deluxe Edition since it was first announced in 2018.
The Deluxe is a monster of a book, fitting considering its source material. The omnibus dwarfs the stand alone manga or VIZBIG Editions of other manga series. It even towers above traditional hardcovers. The binding is solid with the entire page on display unlike the original manga that midway thru the book the binding was so tight (on some volumes) you could miss a little of the page. That, thankfully is a thing of the past. The pages are nice and sharp, while not being the type of gloss found in DC and Marvel Omnibuses, they are a step up from the paperbacks. There is the nice addition of a ribbon bookmark, which not being deal breaking is a nice touch. The only negative on the omnibus is that this was a chance to finally have the colored sections of Miura finally brought to life in vivid colour. Sadly, however, these pages are still black and white. I can only assume Dark Horse used the assets they already owned. Though, there are gloss colored pages of the three original covers from the trade paperbacks 1-3.
Now for a quick overview of what Berserk is for those who have been wanting to finally delve into its majesty, as this is the best place to start.
Berserk is a Dark Fantasy that makes any other that share the title look like a petting zoo. Berserk is brutal and unforgiving yet beautiful in execution. It deals in themes of death, loss, purpose, desire, causality, human will, existentialism, moving forward despite the struggle and following ones dreams. With some of Nietzsche finding it's way into the writing.
The three volumes contained in this omnibus are some of the most hard hitting and unrelenting in the entire series. (And watching the 25 episode 1997 Anime series may be the best for understanding the depths our main character finds himself in). Guts is not your typical protagonist. he is scarred, maimed, is garbed in black and detests those who are too weak to fend for themselves and will stop at nothing to achieve his current desire: vengeance.
For me personally; I love the Black Swordsman and Guardians of Desire chapters that are on display in this omnibus. It is a hugely important part of the story that has been 80% shunned from all anime adaptions. It is important because in these volumes we see Guts at his lowest and that is important to know going forward. (There is a lot more to this however I would be delving into the realm of spoilers and I wish not to do that to those ignorant of the story)
Berserk is not for the feint of heart however within its whole you will experience a journey like none you have ever known. To those I have in the past recommended it to it has been an eye opener and an outstanding journey.

About the Author
While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).
In 1990, the first volume Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga entitled Japan. Miura's fame grew after Berserk began "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of this masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV.
The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan made, ranging from statues and action figures, to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu (Astro Boy) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.

One of the greatest manga series ever bound into a beautiful, bible-like book.
Be warned however, the tale isn’t for the faint of heart.

That Manga was too big to be called a standard size. Too big, too thick, too heavy and too rough. It was more like a large hunk of paper brick.

Neue Trainingseinheit für Bizeps und Rücken: Berserk lesen.
Reviewed in Germany on 4 April 2019Verified Purchase
The media could not be loaded.

Pros:
