worthy Jack Reacher action thriller

Better Off Dead is the second Andrew Child’s Reacher book (with brother Lee) and the twenty sixth instalment of the ex-military police action hero. This time, Jack’s wanderings take him to a remote town adjacent the US-Mexico border, where he chooses to help an army veteran turned FBI agent find her twin brother. As usual with Reacher, troubles seem to find him and the action unfolds requiring him to take on a shadowy crime figure, Waad Dendoncker. Unusually for a Reacher book, the narrative is first person and his intonation is not quite that of other books. It feels a somewhat lessened or diminutive version of Jack Reacher’s earlier incarnations. Still a worthy enough formulaic action thriller in the Jack Reacher franchise, with a four-star read rating.

Sorry Lee. I have everyone of your books, it this one is not in the same league. I don't know if you wrote this one or your brother did, but this is not the REACHER I know and love. Only you know what you have done in this book. I only know I don't like him.

This is like reading one of the copy cat versions that came out after you finished your first three or four books about REACHER. They were so good. I could not wait for the following books.
Maybe it is time REACHER retired. And you find a different direction to go in. Please don't leave him to die by himself, of old age. Leave him with some dignity. As we all remember how he was.

I have read every jack reacher book, but the last few have just been so boring. Where has the jack Reacher all us fans loved gone ? lee Childs's over use of totally unnecessary descriptions of things like windows and chairs and tables made me want to throw my kindle at the wall. Who cares have many orange chairs are in a room or whether the windows or doors have locks or not, it's not relevant to the story. Instead of a nail biting finish it just rambles on and on and on describing everything in the tunnels. I ended up speed reading the last 30% of the story. What an absolute fizzer.

I'm sure I'm like every other Jack Reacher fan and a desperate for a new edition of our heroes stories. So it was with excitement that I started to read this book.

The initial introduction was great and I was anticipating another excellent story.

Unfortunately then it all went South. I've read all the books and can't ever remember them being in the first person. That was my first hint that things weren't what I was expecting.

I persevered until about one-third the way through the book. It's very rare for me not to finish a book as I really like to know what happens in the end. But this was just really bad writing. Really really bad.

It turns out I'm not alone with my extreme disappointment with the latest Jack Reacher novel. I'll definitely be looking at the reviews before I purchase another. I'm thinking I'll go back to book number one and start again.

Nothing like the Jack Reacher we've come to love.

This was obviously not written by Lee Child. Takes me back to my youth when Robert Ludlum started getting other people to write his stories. No character depth, incredibly boring and one dimensional plot line. Everything about this is off. Having read every Jack Reacher novel in the series, I have come to realise I need to stop. Never again. It was just dreadful.

It is sad to say that Jack Reacher has finally died. Jack has been my hero since book 1 but this story was insipid, bland, it was clear that Jack character was dying in his last book, The Sentinel, but in this non story. He has died. RIP Jack Reacher, you were my ideal man, now you are nobody. I have read every Jack Reacher book, but this one is so poorly written I really would like my Money back. This is the last Jack Reacher book I will ever buy.

I've read every Reacher book and I'm sad to say this one wasn't my favorite- I felt like something was missing, I missed the parts of Reacher that made him "Reacher". Not one mention of his toothbrush! No quick stops at a store to get new clothes and no romance. There were some things that were humorous But overall I was somewhat disappointed, lacked real conviction for me not up-to Lee Child’s usual standards hope he reconsiders handing over Jack Reacher to his brother

Very poorly written. The last few books where it’s not been lee child writing them, but advising I think, have been awful. I have read every single Jack Reacher book, known for their humour too, but I think if lee child isn’t writing them himself now, then they need to stop. What a real disappointment these last few books have been and I won’t buy any more.

I'm about as bad at writing reviews as Lee Child or his brother ? have become at writing good Jack Reacher
stories, so I would just like to endorse every thing that has been said in all the one star reviews.
I also have read all the Reacher books and really enjoyed them up until Blue Moon, which was when Reacher
became a mass murderer !! and that book was not co-written with his brother.
I almost stopped reading this book half way through as it was so boring, with such long descriptions of rooms etc. but I persevered to the boring end, and have vowed to stop buying this rubbish !!!!
