A nice little find this, a pretty much forgotten film from the huge back catalogue of Sir Michael Caine. I've been a life long fan of Morris since I was a kid when I first fell in love with The Italian Job about 40 years ago. There are not many actors I will follow, watching and buying various special editions of film's which sit very proudly in my man cave. The actors I have followed and continue to follow religiously are Arnie, Sly, Van Damme, Seagal, Connery, Moore, Eastwood and of course Michael Caine. You may think it odd with Van Damme and Seagal in what is in my book a pretty good list of favourites. I do love other actors but as a body of work the forementioned are a must have in my life. I have respect for them and am constantly entertained. Right, sorry I went off on a tangent...... just wanted to get things into perspective.
Black Windmill is now amongst my collection and it is a very entertaining and well acted film. Its comes across very British despite being directed by Don Siegel, who is known for directing Clint Eastwood back in the late 60s and late 70s and getting Eastwood's directing career going.
Black Windmill is a bit Harry Palmer and a bit James Bond but not so much bit becomes clichés. Caine does a great job, bringing something different despite the Harry Palmer similarly. Good film well worth a watch. Or just buy it.

Disappointed

I bought this as a blu-ray but it would not play on a UK player. There was nothing in the advert to tell you this. A complete waste of time I'm afraid. Lesson for the seller; please be explicit about this. For those of us that buy in good faith this is a poor use of everyone's time!

This is another of the excellent post- Harry Palmer spy thrillers made by Michael Caine, which were much more gritty and serious than his more famous creations. In this very dark story,Caine and his family are the unsuspecting victims of the self serving cynicism and corruption that inevitably occurs among the ranks of those in society who wield absolute power and wish to retain it by any means.. Fear, desperation, and great anger drive Caine to finally determine who the culprit is,and he takes his revenge, and recovers what he has lost,in violent, full, and satisfying measure
Extremely believable and exciting movie, which reminds us once again,of just how badly people in governance and at the top of the social heap, can behave when they perceive their own, personal well being to be threatened.
Good Buy for your Michael Caine collection!,

A serious Spy Story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 August 2012Verified Purchase
I bought the film & the book, Seven Days to a Killing, to see how closely they matched. They did in term of an overall synopsis but I found the book more believable as a part spy, part detective novel rather than the film's attempt to emulate a Bond movie. Essentially, they are both about an operative - played by Michael Caine in the film - whose son is kidnapped & tortured to force the security services to part with a load of money (in the book it is to be converted into diamonds - in the film it's just diamonds). The book is overtly anti-Russian as the baddies are KGB; not so in the film but in both cases they are helped by a traitor. I liked the book as it's pacey but the action's in the UK whereas the film takes in France & is less believable though it's fascinating to see the cross-channel hovercraft being used as part of the high-tech scenery.
