4.0 out of 5 starsNot too shabby
Reviewed in Australia on 20 November 2019
But Jack has evolved. I like the earlier books better, where he occasionally used the 110th & other resources- and was a lot more self sufficient. The story was better than some of the more recent books, but it could have been any hero - bring back the original Jack Reacher! Some while speculation earlier in the book and then later more options were taken into account. Abby seemed to have a lot of input from someone with her background. But again the story Was easy to follow and the book easy to pick up to keep reading.

1.0 out of 5 starsThis is not jack reacher
Reviewed in Australia on 15 January 2021
Jack is a brawler, yes. But he's always used his brain as well. But now, according to this book, he's nothing but a remorseless killer, mowing down anyone who comes up against him.
The author could have had fun with this, Jack could have played off the two opposing factions. against one another with intention - and no one necessarily had to die. Problem was the author turned jack in to a battering ram of death, and even his wish to help the old couple come across as psychotic rather than defending the rights of the 'little guy'

also the waitress sleeping with Jack - her reasonings? this came off as a male author's fantasy rather than what would happen in real life.

4 Stars
My personal rating system

1 Star Couldn't finish the book
2 Stars Didn't really like the book, but was interested enough in the story to finish (Skipping great chunks)
3 Stars The book was okay, finished it and will consider reading more from the author
4 Stars Really enjoyed the book, will check out others by this author
4 1/2 Stars Loved the book, will immediately check out others by author, if asked will recommend book
5 Stars LOVED the book, will immediately check out all others by author, will pre-emptively recommend book to ALL my book friends

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be checking out the authors other books looking for more of the same. I found the action and story to be better than the last couple of books, but tie implausibility factor went up, notwithstanding that I still thoroughly enjoyed the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars I found that in this story Reacher was much more like his old self

I hadn't kept up with Jack Reacher for a time although I have read all the books. I found they were losing their punch. Bought this one along with "The Sentinel" which I'm still to read. I found that in this story Reacher was much more like his old self - getting stuck into the baddies from the get go. Pure escapism for me but I did enjoy it. Hope it continues - now if only I could get rid of the thought of Tom Cruise from the back of my mind when reading the Reacher books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Another White Knight Tale
Reviewed in Australia on 7 December 2019

I happen to like White Knight stories, especially if they're about Jack Reacher. Not that he sets out to be one, but invariably he seems to fall into the role. Child's writing has steadily improved since his first book (which I didn't particularly like) to the degree that I'm eagerly looking forward to each new book. Reacher, however, appears to be evolving in a direction that I don't really care for. More Punisher than White Knight. His moral compass seems to be shifting left of centre quite markedly. Given the number of people he personally slew in this book he exhibits no signs of emotional trauma whatsoever. Not healthy and makes me wonder where he's heading. Hopefully Lee Child can right Reacher's moral compass and prevent him from becoming just another implacable killing machine.

Overall, however, this is another very good tale and is well worth reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reacher shows his tightrope skills
Reviewed in Australia on 31 December 2019

One can only wonder how long Lee Child can come up with feasible plot lines for future Reacher novels. This one does stretch plausibility, but hey, don't all Reacher novels? I really liked this novel because Child does ask his readers to go with him when at times the odds seem so big that not even "Our Jack" could possibly save the day. But he does and in ways that offer morally satisfying methods and outcomes. The central tenant of any Reacher novel is that he (Reacher) is 100% morally committed to the defence of the good in their battles with evil. Nothing is grey. In that sense the novel (like its predecessors) tootles along at high speed with brilliantly tight dialogue and plotting. I read this with a knowledge that Child had sucked me in again to want to believe in Reacher and all he stands for. How many people do we know who could make us want to do that?

Le Chasseur
5.0 out of 5 stars What a man!
Reviewed in Australia on 19 November 2019

Where would I be without Jack? This modern day Superman casts his net far and wide across America, and I'm surprised he is not invited by many States to clean up their criminal problems. "Blue Moon" was as good as most Reacher tales, but this one contained lots of subtle humour (perhaps not so subtle), as if Lee Child was acknowledging that Jack was fast approaching comic-hero status. I particularly liked the way the rival gangs took themselves out, almost laugh out loud moments.
Of course, there were some parts that were totally unrealistic, but that is the attraction of the writing, and what is wrong with a bit of fantasy!.
I will be waiting for the next Jack Reacher adventure with great anticipation.

I have read all the reacher books except the short stories as I don't like that type of novel and I have devoured them not wanting to put them down but "Blue Moon" was just brilliant I was drooling at the mouth waiting for it to arrive after pre-ordering it and I was not disappointed.I think if another movie was done about Reacher ,then Blue Moon would be the perfect storyline and get someone like the rock to play reacher as he fits the persona a lot better than the other guy.I am looking forward to the next Reacher book hoping it isn't too far away

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly plotted; compelling characters; good outwits evil. What's not to like?

Lee Child has done it again. Jack Reacher doing what's right in a whole new world. Lee Child has a gift for bringing the reader into hitherto unknown parts of America in this intricately plotted thriller about an unexpected gang war. As ever he teams up with a smart woman, in this case waitress Abby - this time to solve the problems of an old couple struggling with medical bills. And then it escalates. Lee Child is SUCH a romantic

4.0 out of 5 stars Jack at his usual combative best but not much to leave you thinking or remembering favourite bits.
Reviewed in Australia on 17 January 2020

As a huge Jack Reacher fan I look forward to each novel coming out and this one doesn't disappoint with Jack at his usual formidable self. I enjoy how his mind works, how it strategises, works out all the likely scenarios for each manoeuvre he makes and his opponents make. But over the past few books, I think Lee Child has gone for style over substance. His later books don't have the characterisation and atmosphere of The Killing Floor or 61 Hours, two favourites of mine. I fear he may be guilty of churning out a pot boiler every year and he has proved he is capable of much more than this. Recommended but don't expect to come away feeling satisfied.

I liked this book I think it is one of my favourites. It is a bit over the top at times but the hero won the baddies are toast and he managed to do it without getting caught and beaten up. Good job Lee keep it up
