I grew up in a time where movies like Weekend an Bernies, Weird Science, The Goonies and Risky Business were all great entertainment. Among the titles that I absolutely adored as a teenager was this bad boy The Blues Brothers. This is something that I had watched probably 20 times in my teens and early adulthood, but not seen in more than 20 years. My daughter is into musicals such as Hamilton etc, and kept mentioning the music from the Blues Brothers. I realised that maybe this was my chance at sharing a slice of my past with her and my son. Okay, I did ignore the age recommendations, but other than a bit of swearing and the occasional blowing up of things by Carrie Fisher, I think the movie is rather tame. So who doesn't like to see Police Cars all crashing around, and hear Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin belting out some pretty good songs. I think I might have ruined the experience for the kids as I recited the dialog half a second before it was said in the movie. I don't think there is another movie that I could do that with, except for maybe Pulp Fiction (not sharing that experience yet). Overall, good music, fun antics, and something to get out again to bring back the memories.

The bluray I am referring to is the turquoise, with The Blues Brothers at top of cover in white followed by Black sunglasses followed by two hand knuckles with Elwood written across, then another pair of sunglasses then one hand and knuckles with Jake written in line down cover. 2014 Edition. Get it now as only £3.99 on Bluray. Wow!!

Defective Disc Pressing - Twice!

Whilst this restoration is clearly very good unfortunately my disc was a very poor 'pressing' resulting in many areas of pixilation, juddering and stopping during playback such that the disc had to be returned.
Unsure whether a reorder will result in a repeat of the same issue.

Edit - ordered another copy and this one had precisely the same faults at the same 41 minute mark!

It's not the most slick film, it's not the best written film and yes Mr Belushi's addiction problems come through on a couple of scenes but, the soundtrack and the performances are what make this for me.

4k Ultra HD and Blue Ray don't change this but it does look better than my old VHS copy.
