Product description
C.B. Strike: The Series (DVD) Cormoran Strike is a war veteran turned private detective operating out of a tiny office in London's Denmark Street. Though he's wounded both physically and psychologically, Strike's unique insight and his background as an SIB Investigator prove crucial in unravelling three complex cases, which the police seem unable to solve. Robin Ellacott begins as a temporary secretary, managing Strike's chaotic life but she soon becomes involved with his caseload and begins to see her true potential.

This is a zone 1 dvd, not to be sold outside
the USA or Canada and not playable on zone 2 equipment( UK and Europe.
On returning only received £15.74 of the £19.99 purchase price and none of the postage.
This has left us £11.00 out of pocket on a product that was able to be played on any of our video players.

Good adaptations - with subtitles
Reviewed in Canada on 27 February 2021Verified Purchase
These are very good, faithful adaptations of the books. I personally liked the first one (book and movie) best since the other two have too much violence and gore for my taste; however all of the stories are interesting and very well acted. Holliday Grainger is exceptionally good as Robin: she shows a chameleonic ability to assume other roles/identities/accents as required by her new job. However, I find Tom Burke at times to be laconic and impassive to the point of being phlegmatic (of course it's necessary in his profession to maintain a calm and unruffled demeanour, but I think this is overdone). And physically, this slim, attractive, averagely-tall man is not the huge, bear-like, intimidating, heavy-featured Strike described in the novels. Still, the chemistry between the two is good, although I think Robin's deepening interest in Strike is more clearly seen than his interest in her. Kerr Logan really looks the part of the conventional and "metro"-looking Matthew, and although in the main an unsympathetic character, he does succeed in garnering a little sympathy on occasion for his attitude/point of view.
A couple of comments on the discs themselves. First, these SD discs have a somewhat grainy picture quality, but there is no HD version available. I would willingly have paid extra to have a crisper and clearer HD set. However, much more important to me than this shortcoming is the presence of subtitles. Before purchasing, I scoured the internet to see whether in fact this set did have closed captioning, which I absolutely require, but I could find this information nowhere for this Region 1 (Canada/US) version. (The Region 2 set available on Amazon UK, has somewhat different packaging and does specify English subtitles.) I finally took a chance, and I was relieved to find, before I removed the cellophane (which would have prevented my returning the discs) that "SDH" is printed on the end of the package, hence not photographed for Amazon's description. I strongly urge Amazon to add this information to their list of product details.

A voir.
