Mysterious necromancers. Wicked summoners. Fierce witches. Occasional familiars. Military experiments. Secret councils. Forbidden alliances. The Academy of Ancients will suck you in.
Briar Shroud has gone from foster child to full scholarship at the Academy of Ancients. Cool, right?
Not quite. Her upperclassman mentor Zachary sucks. He's hot, but he sucks at being a mentor. And a friend. And a person.
Her roommate's a paranormal, and the whole school is underground and a secret.
Know what else is bad? Briar learns she's a witch. And a rare type of witch, to boot.
It went from bad to worse—a picture of a sister she's never heard of appears at the school. A sister she knows nothing about.
And the rules seem hellbent on keeping Briar from learning the truth. And sometimes, it seems other forces would rather not see her alive.
Warning: This series will hook you! Violence can be found in this series of action-packed fantasy, with necromancers, summoners, and badass witches.

Don't bother

If you read and enjoyed Harry Potter do not bother to read this book. It is a simplified American version of the same story but with a girl instead of a boy and slightly older characters who have got as far as kissing age. The whole thing relies far too heavily on the very well written Harry Potter books. Sadly, and the part that made me really angry, this is only part of the story. There is no resolution to the question of who did exactly what to who. You have to buy book 2 to get any closer to any answers. At least J K Rowling finalised each book and each one could be read as a standalone book. No chance with this one. There were also proof reading errors which should never happen in a published book. I persevered with this book but I am cross with myself that I didn't delete it after the first few chapters. The book is also written from the viewpoint of the two main characters and the switching between characters was not done well or seamlessly so spoiled the book even more. I find it sad that someone should be permitted to take the concepts behind another persons writing, change things around a little and then publish it as their own work.

Rubbish
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 January 2022Verified Purchase
The character is very whiny and feeling very sorry for herself, going over the same thing again and again, I got to the airport part and had enough, I won’t go to into it ( read other comments ) wish I had read them first, there would be no way I would have got this book, how bad it is, we should be able to get our money back.
There would be no way I would of let my teenage daughter read this, no wonder some teenagers behave the way they do if they read rubbish like this, I don’t normally do reviews, but I felt I needed to with this book, such a shame I was so looking forward to reading it 🤔😓

A very good book, suitable for young teens

I enjoyed this book immensely, despite being a pensioner. It us a book I believe young teens upwards would enjoy.
