The films of Charles Spencer Chaplin should need no introduction but strangely seem to have fallen out of fashion. Whilst silent film is no longer mainstream, there remain a number of classics that are worthy of rediscovery by every generation. With Chaplin's work chief amongst them.
This timeless collection includes 10 of Chaplin's feature films (The Kid, A Woman of Paris, The Circus, City Lights, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, Monsieur Verdoux, Limelight, A King In New York, with a bonus of The Chaplin Revue which is a 1959 release of 3 shorts - A Dog's Life, Shoulder Arms and The Pilgrim). Note that the version of The Gold Rush included is the 1942 re-edited version, commonly viewed as inferior to the 1925 release. All the films have been restored impeccably on blu-ray and are free of blemish. The definition in some of the shots is incredible.
Whether you're a Chaplin fanatic, or want to see his films for the first time, this collection is a must.

Not the original cut of The Gold Rush!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 March 2021Verified Purchase
Whilst the set is for the most part amazing, I was very irritated to learn that the disc for The Gold Rush only has the edited version that includes narration and is significantly shorter. Whilst this would be great as an option, I wanted to watch the original cut of the film! Big disappointment in an otherwise great set.

Remarkable
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 October 2017Verified Purchase
Incredible quality and value for money for this box set. It's hard to believe that some of these movies are over 90 years old. It may be a generation thing but Charlie Chaplin is the Godfather of all comedy. His story-telling and comic timing are a joy to watch and it's shame on all the television broadcasters that these films are almost entirely ignored. This box set is the best collection to start a Charlie Chaplin collection. It's hard to pick a favourite but City Lights is probably the best film followed closely by Modern Times, The Gold Rush and The Kid. The quality is quite remarkable for such old material. Well done Curzon Artificial Eye.

Chaplin, still wonderful

Great value boxed set. 10 films plus The Chaplin Revue and 3 shorts. Not counting hours of extras.
I would have paid the price just for the closing scene of City Lights. Highly recommended.

Can't believe it has taken me 29 years before watching a Charlie Chaplin film. Watched a documentary about him and thought I would try some of his films. They are brilliant. I was surprised how much I like the silent ones, such classics!
