Jane was, presumably, born, although everyone concerned denies all knowledge. However there is evidence that her early years were spent in Devon (she can still talk like a pirate under the right conditions) and of her subsequent removal to Yorkshire under a sack and sedation.

She now lives in North Yorkshire, where she writes romantic comedies and labours under the tragic misapprehension that men are queueing up for her. Owing to a terrible outbreak of insanity she is the minder of an enormous ginger cat called Arthur and a training-averse terrier; she is also the owner of five practically grown-up children, and she has to spend considerable amounts of time in a darkened room as a result (of the animals, not the kids).

Jane's likes include marshmallows, the smell of cucumbers and the understairs cupboard, words beginning with B, and Doctor Who. She writes with her laptop balanced on her knees whilst lying on her bed, and her children have been brought up to believe that real food has a high carbon content. And a kind of amorphous shape.

Not unlike Jane herself, come to think of it.

She had some hobbies once, but she can't remember what they were. Ask her to show you how many marshmallows she can fit in her mouth at once, though, that might give you a clue. Go on, I dare you.

I came home from work to find this new book delivered a day earlier than expected & I sat down to read. I couldn't put it down; I was enthralled with Brack, the beautiful fox & the unfolding story of Tamzin and the older story of Stella, not forgetting Euan the enigma. It was so well written and so Yorkshire. I loved the descriptions of the countryside I know so well. A truly wonderful, wonderful story. Thank you Jane, if this book isn't a hit then I want to know the reason why! Just fantastic.

An uplifting story about second chances and three legged foxes. Well, there's just one fox, but it adorable and I want to adopt him. I might pop up to Yorkshire and sneak him away at the dead of night. He might pee on me though, as he would be a bit surprised, me popping up like that. He likes to pee on soft furnishings, as Tamzin is well aware and she's not sure the cottage she's bought is really fox house material. Tamzin is the character who has started again in the aforementioned old cottage with the three legged fox and a heart full of hope. There's a strange man next door calle Ethan who seems a bit creepy, but she soon gets used to him. There are lots of laugh out loud moments, but there's also a very serious thread running through it too, which tends to wipe the smile of your face a bit. Having said that, it's addressed with sensitivity and care, so its conclusion, while sad, is realistic. A great story - highly recommended.

Jane Lovering's books are very much about real people, with insights into their behaviour and the reasons that not all relationships are healthy ones. In this book she tackles domestic violence with sensitivity, writing against the stereotypes of victims and reminding us that it's not only women who experience abuse. And despite the seriousness of the subject-matter, there's lots of gentle humour here too.
Lovering's writing is excellent and her love of the countryside - earthy and smelly and full of wonders - is very evident, even if the sun does seem to shine rather more often than my own corner of it suggests. This is the second of her books I've read and I'll be looking for more.

I went to stay with my daughter and this book was on the night stand. I began to read it and was quickly hooked. I then downloaded as an ebook. I have really enjoyed this book even though it's not something I would normally read. I was expecting a quaint little village story but this was so much more. I loved the two time lines and the memories of the 1970's. I also like the fact that someone has written about domestic abuse from a different angle . Not all abuse has femal victims. I also loved the star of the book Brack. I would recommend this book.
