Product description
Fitz Fitzgerald is an insulting, nosy, loathsome individual who is a drunken excuse for a husband, a lousy father and a gambling washout, but he has one saving grace--he is a brilliant psychologist with an uncanny ability to see evil in people, make them confess and walk away unscathed. He understands the criminal mind probably because his mind isnt that far removed from the criminals he deals with.

The character of Fitz, portrayed by Robbie Coltrane, exercises a horrible fascination. You want to like him but he keeps on letting his wife down dreadfully amidst other poor behaviour. The macho chauvinism of the era (could it really have been that bad in the 90s?) as experienced by the character of officer Penhaligon (Geraldine Somerville) also jars (and I speak as a man). Nevertheless there are a number of absorbing plotlines and the character of the Liverpudlian superintendent who is introduced partway through the series, introduces a fair bit of genuine humour. Overall they are interesting stories and it's quite an entertaining series if you don't mind being disappointed by the leading characters from time to time.

Product arrived safe and sound. Would recommend seller.
I remember watching this show as a youngster. Although the show is dated (think no mobile phones until later episodes) it's still very watchable. This collection includes all the episodes plus the 2 specials.
Robbie is great as the main character. The supporting actors and guests are also wonderful. I would highly recommend this to anyone that likes classic English crime drama.

Cracker is great and the seller did everything right. Unfortunately I didn’t realise that DVDs from the UK won’t play in Australia 😐

Top notch drama... Wow

Probably one of the best TV dramas of its time or of any time... Robbie Coltrane plays the role he was born to play... an absolutely amazing performance mixing humour, serious cracks showing and everything he's asked to do. The whole cast is absolutely at the top of their game though..as they take on some seriously difficult and challenging crimes.
The writing is absolutely spot on touching many of the raw nerves of the UK at the time, meaning that whilst its 20 years old it's still absolutely as sharp as a tack.

Still fresh and engaging

The story of a heavy smoking, alcoholic, gambling addicted consulting police psychologist. Brilliant at his job but the rest of his life is falling apart.
You know the story well by now but this first aired in 1993 and the path was less well trodden then. And it shows...the acting is excellent throughout, the plots are varied enough to keep your interest while also deftly carrying the long term story arcs.
Well worth the money.

and I've enjoyed watching every episode again

To some people, Cracker might appear dated these days, compared to the modern crime dramas we get now. However to me, it remains one of the masterpieces of British television, and I've enjoyed watching every episode again. Robbie Coltrane is excellent as the flawed psychologist, and proves again, what a treasure he is to British entertainment.

Very good

It's strange, but when you revisit a series you saw years ago, it's like you are watching a different version! Not as I remembered it and yet I know it is exactly as it was - I guess that we put a different interpretation on things at various times in life. Enjoyed it but not as much as the first time around. Worth buying though. We will keep it and probably watch it again in a couple of years - see if wee find it different again!

Robbie Coltrane is fab!!

I was only 9 when this first aired, so I never saw it at the time. Upon reading the reviews, I decided to buy this and I was not disappointed. The stories are great with fantastic acting, especially from Robbie Coltrane and Lorcan Cranitch. There are some serious stories but with some great laugh out loud moments along the way. Having Fitz as a psychologist and not just another cop or private detective really gives it a different dynamic. One of my all time faves.
