Product description
United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: Hebrew ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), English ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Making Of, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: When a group of best friends in Tel Aviv gather to watch 'UniverSong', they are less than impressed by the official Israeli entry. Believing that they can do better, they spontaneously create and record their own song on a mobile phone. Little do they know, their performance is seen by the 'UniverSong' judges and soon they are reluctantly thrown into the spotlight as Israel's next official entry. After initial reservations about their new found celebrity status, they decide to just go for it and find themselves on the road to international stardom. They embark on a flamboyant journey that brings about hilarious end results as they go head to head with the Russian entry in the 'UniverSong' final. From director Eytan Fox comes this extravagant and unashamedly entertaining Eurovision parody featuring a feel-good soundtrack provided by Babydaddy from the Scissor Sisters. With bright styling, irresistibly catchy tunes and a gloriously uplifting storyline, this laugh-out-loud comedy is a refreshing ode to music, friendship and romance. ...Cupcakes ( Cup cakes )

The group of neighbors who form a thrown-together Eurovision group (here the "Universong" contest) are centered around a bakery, which, like Eurovision, produces sugary treats with marginal nutritional value. But as their casual entry assumes a life of its own, they must deal with issues of personal identity and life goals that underpin what is a frivolous lark on the surface.
The film is an aural and visual treat, with Fox's usual attention to detail (for example, in a scene with three soft drink bottles on a table, each one is a different day-glow color, like a bouquet of balloons). Fox expertly captures the multi-layered feelings evoked by Eurovision, from disdain to giddy elation, and skewers everyone from politicians to music industry moguls and publicists without malice and maintaining a tone of bemused knowingness.
In another director's hands, this could very well have been a throwaway piece of fluff. But in the assured hands of the director of "Yossi" and "Walk on Water", "Cupcakes" is anything but junk food.

Absolute Empfehlung!

The wit, the humor and the cinematography of the stories are very good and the stories catch you deep in your heart. I can only recommand all these movies to the ones who are sentimental like me, and I shall be looking forward to see Ethan Fox's next production.
