Another important point is the outstanding Roy Budd soundtrack. Very 80s but utterly sublime. It's the kind of synths and guitars that artists today nick for their songs and then get acclaimed as geniuses by the masses. It really is a terrific soundtrack, slightly Herbie Hancock 'Rock It' and a touch 80s Bond.
All in all, I'm happy to champion this film - it deserves a big re-appraisal. So why only 4 stars? The disc. The excellent cover image implies that this will be a lovingly remastered disc replete with extras, something like 88films are currently producing. It isn't. The print's scratches and smears are present and don't seem to have been cleaned up since the DVD. It gives it a nice VHS feel I suppose, but on a 65" OLED, every smear and stain is exhibited. Black levels are weak and grainy while the soundtrack is just a boring 2.0 stereo track. Very disappointing. 'Who Dares Wins' - and the late Lewis Collins - deserves so much better.
