The same as at least one previous reviewer, I bought this film after having seen the trailer on some other DVD I'd bought. And I will agree that all the best bits are in the trailer (then again, which trailer does not feature the best bits?). And while not all parts of the film live up to the trailer, I didn't find it dire. It's an entertaining teen coming of age story and the inclusion of the gay theme is nicely handled. I liked the dynamics between the two lads throughout the film, found the two different sets of parents rather fun and could laugh about the running joke of the pot brownie/cake. Fun to see Megan Mullally as the mother of the boy who comes out as gay. Also love Dakota Johnson in this. It's all good fun to watch and should keep you entertained on a rainy afternoon and with a run time of 87 minutes it doesn't outstay its welcome.
The DVD is fine. English subtitles are available for those who may need them and the following extra features are included:
- Making of Featurette
- The Prom: A Rite of Passage
- Deleted Scenes
- Commentary with director Chris Nelson and writer Alan Young

American Pie if it had a gay storyline
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 April 2019Verified Purchase
Before watching this you need to know what you're getting. It is light-hearted in most places and is meant to share the same comedy vein as American Pie. Except one of the guys looking to lose their virginity is gay and it revolves around his straight best friend coming to terms with it. It was surprisingly more fun and interesting than I expected and for once, it has a gay storyline that doesn't involve death or heartache. It plays up to all the usual stereotypes on purpose (the over flamboyant queen in a gay club, naked foam parties) but at the same time shows a gay guy who is a 'dude that likes other dudes' - which is actually refreshing. Much better than you'd think so worth a watch if just for fun.
