The core plot is similar but modified from the original, as an alien life form (Keanu Reeves) arrives on Earth on a mission to protect its existence. This time, though, environmental themes replace nuclear dangers. However, quickly captured and finding an ally in a scientist (Jennifer Connolly) will his warnings be heeded in time?
Visual effects are generally decent, but some of the CGI from 2008 looks much more obvious today given there’s a LOT of it being used. Performances are OK and ultimately it’s up to you, the viewer, as to whether the environmental theme engages you or turns you off. Disc extras are adequate, with the usual mix of a feature commentary, featurettes, etc

This is not one of them. This is more in the 47 Ronin or Henry's Crime class
His expressionless act,of course deliberate in his alien persona, sets the tone for the film.
Why,bearing in mind how the humans he meets behave,he changes his mind vis-a-vis his mission I really don't know.
Kathy Bates does a passable Hilary Clinton pastiche, but Jennifer Connolly, who can act, chooses not to,and all the military men play as if this were a remake of Dr Strangelove.
Effects though are good, but overall not much happens and the film drifts off into The Man who fell to Earth for a while before an obligatory chase or two.
A simpler and shorter remake of the Michael Rennie classic might have been a better idea.

I love the effects and CGI, as well as the actors. I do however think they could have done more with this film, it just seemed it was lacking in some aspects but I won’t get into it. Watch it for yourself! I do recommend this film 100% 🙂

If you enjoyed the original, please watch this without the intention of critiquing it for its bad aspects and you WILL have a great time enjoying the remake!
