Defiance stands where St. Louis used to be - it, like the planet, transformed since the alien influx over thirty years earlier. Nine months have passed since Season 1's dramatic finale. Grant Bowler's Joshua Nolan is back as the rugged but flawed Law Keeper. Relations are strained with his "daughter" Irisa, she not as she was and now seemingly key to events destined to change Earth even more drastically.
Like its predecessor, Season 2 is always interesting to look at, but not always easy to understand. The box set could have done with a far fuller recap of earlier events, plus background details of the various groups of aliens involved.
Nevertheless, attention is held. The series abounds with particular pleasures, characterization by no means swamped by spectacular special effects. Doc. Jewll remains a personal favourite, she so distinctive and enigmatic. Jaime Murray and Tony Curran prove a great double act as the senior Tarrs, proof one should never judge by appearances. They look ethereal, positively angelic, but neither can be trusted an inch.
Thirteen episodes. Amongst bonuses, mini-episodes shed further light on the Nolan-Irisa relationship. Jesse Rath's contributions were enjoyed, his appearance transformed to become Alak Tarr (it interesting to see how that was achieved). With humour he acts as a guide round the set, crew and cast. The tour is divided into snippets (there more of them than at first seems).
Trying to keep up requires effort, but it is rewarded. I join fans eagerly awaiting Season 3.

Sent for this in desperation having watched Season 1 last year. We don't stream and the offerings of the BBC and ITV have been dire over the last few months. Defiance Season 2 didn't disappoint at all, better than Season 1. Many people haven't heard of it, give it a try.

Never a dull moment.

I enjoyed series one because of the imaginative way various species were gathered together in one place and the way they inhabited the ruins of a once major city. In series two the mix of murder, politics, power, and personal problems continues to create new tensions to push events along. Throw in a military occupation (why are the soldiers of the Earth Republic so smartly dressed and clean? Have they commandeered all the surviving dry-cleaners?) and you've got all the ingredients for yet more trouble for the residents of Defiance. Great characters, interesting plots, suitably grubby scenery - roll on series three.

Arrived promptly. I enjoyed the first season which was superb as there is always some challenges facing defiance as each episodes follows the previous. Like the characters and scenes. Very worthwhile to see as I've just recently bought the third season to keep things ticking over
