An Amazon Charts bestseller.
From USA Today bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a second-chance romance about love, loss, finding yourself, and getting lost in the right person.
Maddie Goldbloom stitched up a plan to ensure everything in her life was perfect—from a career in fashion to a chic NYC apartment to a pediatrician boyfriend.
When her ex, Chase Black, storms back into her life with an outrageous request, her immediate reaction is to refuse him. But he only wants to fulfill his father’s last wish. So even though he’s the man who broke her heart, playing his fiancée shouldn’t be hard, especially if it means she gets to watch the arrogant devil squirm a bit.
What ensues is a chain of events that detonates Maddie’s life—and when Chase’s walls come down, they both are forced to face reality.
They say keep your enemies close. But what if your enemy is also the man you love?

Chase Black is cocky, arrogant, sarcastic and insufferable, and there are times where you just want to strangle him. Chase Black is your typical rich boy. He’s always used to getting what he wants, but this time he needs Maddie’s help.
Maddie, oh my dear Maddie, always selflessly puts others before herself and wears her heart on her sleeve. She learnt to start putting herself first after her break-up with Chase. She's now stronger, more confident and isn't afraid to voice her opinions.
Six months after their break-up, Chase is back asking for her help. Maddie was strong enough to refuse him at first, but after learning about his family, her big heart gave in after hearing his reasons. Maddie knows what Chase is like and knows he's not after the same things as her. She has to pretend to be engaged to him in front of his family. This means that she’ll have to spend time with a man she hates... until having bad feelings towards him become very difficult.
The story was filled with so much humour, witty banter, sexual chemistry and tension where I couldn't decide whether I hated or loved Chase.
I loved watching these characters grow, particularly Madison, whom I just loved.
I think they were right for one another and loved their love/hate, push-pull banter and how they never really gave up on one another. Overall, a great second chance contemporary romance story with angst, love, loss and laughter.
Didn't love it to death like I do so many other stories. It's certainly a must read, I have it in both physical and e-book format, so it's one I'll certainly pick up again.
Definitely steamy, not as gritty for me as my favourite Vicious, not many will compare to my love for that read.

I find Shen’s books to be very similar, she doesn’t really move away ever from rich bad boy, this one felt slightly different but I don’t know if it’s just because it’s worse than the rest.
****spoiler**** the whole Dad walking in on the brothers fighting and admitting to knowing everything felt really rushed. And to me, meant that the whole lying in the first place was completely unnecessary. It felt like lazy writing.
When Chase asked Maddie for help ... he knew she could not turn him down ... The Maddie he knew was kind and a YES person. However, he finds himself Stunned when he realises that this Maddie is no more!
Maddie is a strong, kind woman full of sass and it’s impossible to not root for her!
Chase is the Alpha male that you love to hate! But he’s a family man, he would do anything for them even pretend to have a fake fiancée.
His charisma and charm are shadowed by his attitude and overall behaviour to Maddie. He is ruthless to begin with but the more he gets to know her again the more attracted to her he is!
The banter between them and the dialogue shows that LJ Shen can write fantastic RomCom that will make you swoon and LOL!
The Devil Wears Black had The perfect blend of passion, sass and heart- it is for sure steamy battle of wills that will get your blood pumping!
Great characters in a well written story and a whole heap of emotions portrayed by some fabulous characters.
I could have done without the sex talk, there wasn’t a warning about the language. There are people out there who will like or get turned on by it but I’m not one of them, I don’t find it remotely sexy to read what turns him on, and what he wants to do to her. Horrible.
I made it to the end, just to get mired in the treacly, sugary change in personalities and their happy ever after. My teeth are still aching.
Not something I’ll read again, just glad it was only 99p. Even so,I could have had a bar of Lindt milk chocolate for that, and enjoyed it more.
I’ve given 3 stars for the first few chapters, the rest wasn’t worth the read. I know I’m in the minority, I usually am.
Then there's a hostile takeover, betrayal and blackmail.
Wonderfully written with good characters and storyline.
Highly recommend. Lovely romance.
I loved the chemistry between these two and the slow realisation that Maddie was more than she appeared to be before he'd asked her to become his fake-fiancée. She was sass - pure and simple.
There were emotional elements to the story yet it was fun with the banter and back-and-forth that made the pages whizz by.
We should all be so brave to be individuals like Maddie in her quirky clothes and unique character!!
