Product description
The dazzling Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) falls out of the sky just in time to thwart an alien huntsman who is stalking human prey. With little time to spare and the population of Sheffield (and Earth!) at risk, the Doctor recruits three new friends--gentle Ryan, no-nonsense Yasmin and Ryan's step-grandfather, Graham--who soon feel more like family than companions.

Overcompensating a bit...
Reviewed in Canada on 8 February 2019Verified Purchase
I'd really give 4 stars, but I feel the need to overcompensate for the knee-jerk backlash against a female doctor in some of the previous reviews. Yes, the writing was a bit below par, but considering the HUGE upheaval to the show, it's to be expected they're still finding their sea legs post-Moffat. I like Jodi Whittaker's Doctor a lot more than I liked Peter Capaldi's when he started and, like previous Doctors, I can't wait to see how her Doctor evolves.

No fun.

This iteration of Doctor Who commited the ultimate sin. It was just plain BORING.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s okay to put your own stamp on it, to shake things up a bit but Chibnall’s production gutted it.
Jodi is a proven acting dynamo so it can only be crappy writing that made her seems like a bad imitation of Matt Smith. Three companions meant that none of the characters are developed. Consequently the Doctor / Companions relationship is almost business-like. There is none of the banter and none of the fun.

Fun fun fun

This is one of my favourite Doctor Who seasons. Maybe not quite as good as the Capaldi seasons, but still, really incredible. There's not a bad episode in the entire season (unlike nearly every other Doctor Who season) and, it has four of my all-time favourite Who episodes (Demons of the Punjab, Rosa, the Witchfinders and Kerblam!). Also, great characters and an interesting Doctor/companion(s) dynamic that feels fresh. Finally, this is perhaps the most beautifully shot Who season. Totally breathtaking to watch.

Doctor Who continues to impress - differently
Reviewed in Canada on 24 May 2019Verified Purchase
The new Doctor is different, and not just because he's a woman now. The companions have been chosen well and interact well with the Doctor. I'm particularly impressed by Bradley Walsh's character Graham, by far the oldest human mortal companion in a long time. I miss the Tardis of the 11th and 12th doctors! The acting is top notch. The stories are watchable, but not as engaging as some in the heyday of Stephen Moffat and Russell Davies.

Scaled back DVD release content.
Reviewed in Canada on 13 February 2019Verified Purchase
Disappointed new DVD release only contains the 3 discs version. Outside of North America a 4 disc version was released, that included artwork and an extra dvd of specials. As were previous Doctor DVD seasons released by the BBC. Bought this edition at same cost of previous sets and got less content.
