Interesting features, but very slow!

It has interesting features, does the job, but I am under the impression that the device is from 5 years ago. When you touch the screen to access a menu, you will have to wait a good two seconds for the new screen to appear which is sign of an extremely poor chip. The voice recognition is really good. The screen itself is ok but the light it generates at night will bother you if you are sensitive to full darkness

Was poor, but customer service did help

Bought this hoping for some Australian content which is sadly lacking. Keeps cycling through US baseball, basketball and crime news which is both irrelevant and depressing. Sure I can tell Alexa to play local radio but the video content is all US and the settings (so far) do not allow the ABC (the Australian one!) or anything else local. The pic shows the message received when clicking on the ABC option for video content - smarmy.
It looks like a clunky clock radio - really I prefer my sleek Echo Dot as this offers nothing extra except annoying visuals. Sound quality is good but again, no better than the Dot.
Edit to add: Customer Service emailed me within minutes of this review and changed my settings; this makes the device much more useful with local news content. I still prefer my Dot but this will now be good value.

I'm still getting used to this modern computerised kit, the Echo Show 5 is great for an addition to the bedroom, it is a clock, alarm, gives you the weather forecast and the other great feature is that you can ask Alexa any question that you want, you might not always get an answer that you expect, but wonderful for getting a quick response to a question and you don't have to waste time booting up your computer. Also, great value if you get it at a sale price as I did.

I have found echo is a great addition to my home automation system. It makes my life simpler with the usage of some basic features that used to be done manually thus saving lots of time and effort now. Comes with the great interface and nice design. Love having this in our house. We rotate the display with our favourite family pics, often check in with weather or news for the day, connect to Amazon movies and love that it has night mode to just show the time in a dimmed setting when we’re asleep. Great addition to the house.

The addition of a screen is great for the echoes. I do wish it had better support for Youtube. I realise YouTube is owned by a major competitor but that shouldn't preclude its easy access.
