Interesting features, but very slow!

It has interesting features, does the job, but I am under the impression that the device is from 5 years ago. When you touch the screen to access a menu, you will have to wait a good two seconds for the new screen to appear which is sign of an extremely poor chip. The voice recognition is really good. The screen itself is ok but the light it generates at night will bother you if you are sensitive to full darkness

Was poor, but customer service did help

Bought this hoping for some Australian content which is sadly lacking. Keeps cycling through US baseball, basketball and crime news which is both irrelevant and depressing. Sure I can tell Alexa to play local radio but the video content is all US and the settings (so far) do not allow the ABC (the Australian one!) or anything else local. The pic shows the message received when clicking on the ABC option for video content - smarmy.
It looks like a clunky clock radio - really I prefer my sleek Echo Dot as this offers nothing extra except annoying visuals. Sound quality is good but again, no better than the Dot.
Edit to add: Customer Service emailed me within minutes of this review and changed my settings; this makes the device much more useful with local news content. I still prefer my Dot but this will now be good value.

Great if you live in the US, but anywhere else forget it.

Had high hopes for this device, but it has let me down. Quality wise this Echo device is good, the voice is good as well and I don’t have to prefix each command with OK or HEY. But my main issue is that it is USA centric. It constantly scrolls down US news, info on US movies, shows and sports but I cannot get it to be Australia based. I have ensured I have the correct location set on the device, on my AU account and on my US Amazon account but it makes no difference. I can’t set the news to my state, I can’t connect to my YouTube music account (but I can connect to Spotify and others if I paid another monthly fee). Sure I can get a 10 minute News Flash but that is all.
If Amazon want this device to be used outside of USA then they need to change these issues, so at this stage it is relegated to being glorified digital alarm clock.

Okay But Lacking a Basic Feature

Works just as good as any of the Echo's, screen is okay, nice to have clock and weather on display, you can watch Youtube via the built in web browser, and it seems to play pretty good, but I find the touch screen very slow to respond, it feels underpowered when navigating its menu, but voice response is on par with Echo Dot's.

The main reason I gave it 3 stars, is the lacking of any 3.5mm audio output jack, the built in speaker like all of these devices sounds like tweeter in a cardboard box, I have tried some generic USB Audio DAC's and none of them work, so its use case is very limited.

I recommend this to people that would like a nice bedside or office desk clock and don't really care about audio quality, but if you want this for a Kitchen setting, I would recommend going for the larger Show 8.

I bought 2 of these today to have in my kids' rooms so they can listen to music and books from audible.

Firstly, I find it a bit slow to respond, however I can live with it.
My major problem with it is, I can't seem to select what song to play by using the touch screen, I have to use voice commands. I don't always know the song I want to play, I want to browse for it on the device - but I can't! And I can't select playlists either. It's similar with the books. You can use a voice command or you have select the book from your phone - you can't scroll through on the device. Well, I'd like the kids to independently use the device without needing my phone all the time.
Also, I can't seem to disable all videos on the device! There needs to be a restriction option to disable all videos. I don't want my kids to be able to watch videos on the device whenever they want.
At this stage I'm a bit disappointed :(

I had some glitches and bugs when I first setup the device, weirdly enough the glitches happened after it was updated to the latest version. I had to factory reset it to get it working smoothly. Now that it’s working, I say this: it is damn slow. The touch screen isn’t responsive, the operating system lags, and if I had known how slow it was I wouldn’t have bought it. But if you just use it for Alexa voice commands to control your smart home devices like I do, it works fine. Audio quality isn’t amazing, good enough. Honestly unless this is on a steep discount, buy one of the bigger versions of the Echo Show series because I have an Echo Show 8 that is so much better.

Voice recognition a little slow, can be very hit and miss on whether or not it will get requests right or even recognise your voice. Built in apps/functions limited, for example the YouTube app is just the mobile webpage which is poor. Some of the design and functions seem too complicated than what they should be and often feel very slow or delayed. Ie. setting up connections with third party apps/smart devices such as Ring cameras.

This device constantly needs to be unplugged and plugged in again to make it work. After less than 24 hours it becomes unresponsive to voice commands and requires a power off/on reset. Considering the cost one would expect a more reliable product. Very disappointed.

Not as robust as I thought it would be. Medicore product from such a huge company like Amazon. Touch feedback is not as good as compatitive products available in market. Screen and Alexa's voice feedback flickered thrice in the first 5 minutes of usage, hope will be fine in long run(ps - it won't be). Prolly they are making a new generation of this product, so giving alot of discounts on this model.

This is a nice addition to somewhere like the kitchen, somewhere where you may want to add some apps and steam something, it supports a few good Australian apps like ABC and I'm sure Netflix too, just don't expect fast response from this, but it works fine if your not expecting it to work like your mobile phone. (Voice responses are good, can link with Ring video doorbell.)

I have a Sony google chrome that is about 4 years old. The Google app is so much more useful than this one. The echo will not recognise my partners voice and when you tell it to play songs it get it completely wrong. I am using it to display pictures and I have gone back to my old google device. I am glad I got it cheap when I signed up to Amazon.

The voice assistant is really good and generally activates as expected and does what it should with good feedback.

The touch screen is not good, using it the device is painfully slow with every press taking 1 to 5 seconds and sometimes more to load. Additionally the touch screen has light bleed at the to toward the right side. This is fine if you're not planning to watch anything on it. But if you plan on watching anything with dark backgrounds it will really bug you.
