Over the past few years, Brianna Wiest has gained renown for her deeply moving, philosophical writing. This new compilation of her published work features pieces on why you should pursue purpose over passion, embrace negative thinking, see the wisdom in daily routine, and become aware of the cognitive biases that are creating the way you see your life.
Some of these pieces have never been seen; others have been read by millions of people around the world. Regardless, each will leave you thinking: This idea changed my life.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Extremely disappointed on how a book full of lists and more lists is called a book of essays. I am just finding it so hard to continue. The quality of paper is bad. Unless you are new to the world of self development, this book is really very very basic.

The title should give the hint. This is hard work and at times contradictory which makes it hard to keep engaged. Ended up choosing some of the essays of interest.

Lots of great advice – but ends up being quite superficial with 4-page long chapters on average.

I'm not sure whether this book was a mistake, or one of the best books I've read. On the one hand, it does not have a main idea or contention that's backed up by several chapters of detailed discussion, and instead feels like a collection of short blog-posts regurgitating basic self-help advice (that I've mostly heard of) – which, in my opinion, does not constitute a proper book. However, I feel as though the author is nudging my life towards a positive direction each time I turn its pages, and that I tend to be happier and more mindful on the days where I read this book.
I suppose I've just listed the (perhaps obvious) pros and cons of a book titled with "101 Essays..." My main doubt is that this book, like many ordinary self-help books, have given me doses of spiritual highs without leaving considerable lasting impacts on my life. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Just after finishing though, my impression is that this book packs a large quantity of self-help advice, but perhaps wasn't enough overall for me to justify its price.

Thought provoking, " mature" , written in a perspective language sometimes yet beautifully done.
Definitely recommended for a lot of "soul" searching.

This book will challenge you in the most positive way. You will need to reread this numerous times if you don’t understand parts of it and this is the whole point to change the way you think!
Buy both the ebook and audiobook. The narration of the audio will keep you engaged. The ebook/book is your reference book.
JUST BUY IT and stop procrastinating.

By essays, they are actually list of points with very little in-depth thinking. And the book is composed of 101 such lists, mostly rephrasing and repeating the trivial.
Nothing revolutionary or will open your mind. It may make you feel like you have some clarity while you are reading it but I doubt it will "change the way you think".

Some real enlightening beautiful moments but at times repetitive and convoluted. Unecessarily wordy, when simpler could have made the point.

It really does change the way you think

I almost didn’t buy this book because of some weird bad reviews I kept reading “repetitive” and “nothing new” and stuff like that, then I came across a quote from the book and it was “real emotional maturity is how thoroughly you let yourself feel anything. Everything. Whatever comes. It is simply the knowing that the worst thing that could ever happen… is just a feeling at the end of the day.” and I said to myself “I am getting this book” and I did.
From the first page to the last it did not disappoint one bit.
What people meant by “repetitive” is that you’ll find concepts and topics to overlap to each other and of course they will! A chapter talking about self love it has to include pain and vice versa.
I read this book in little less than 2 weeks as I was going through a break up, omg it was truly inspiring, it made me look inside my pain and asking myself questions I have never thought about before.
I honestly changed the way I view so many aspects of my life right now, get this book!

No essays but lists

I was really looking forward for some essays but instead the book contains mainly lists with short explanations. It has some interesting points but she doesn’t go deep to explain them properly.
I have to say I’m a little disappointed.

Very basic content, nothing profoundly different; perspective wise.. a lot of common sense stuff. Overall very underwhelming. Total bore. Give this one a hard pass and save your money

I bought the book because the title seemed compelling. The title is a complete exaggeration because the rather short chapters are mostly lists of commonplace statements and lack quality and depth to qualify as essays. The high ranking the book receives and the reason why it became a bestseller is probably because there is nothing controversial in it. It wants to make you feel better about your life, jumping randomly between topics, but there is nothing thought provoking or to learn from. Save the money and go to the movies instead.
