It was such a pleasure getting back to Nikki Galena and Joseph Eastern. They have always been among my favourite book characters and this last book by Joy Ellis is just as good as they have ever been, but this time with a very different slant to the mystery and the murders.
There were more difficulties in solving this crime that ended up with several bodies and several very mixed up characters that posed very definite danger.
I enjoyed this, it was different from the usual, even Joseph said the same, difficult, and not to be confused with boring.
Was this truly the thirteenth book in the series? Well, I wish I was just discovering them so I could enjoy them all over again.
I do hope book 14 isn't too far away. :)

The characters in the Nikki Galena are such likeable characters and you want to just keep reading about them. They seem almost normal compared to many in crime novels. Really enjoy Joy Ellis's books and this is no exception

I chose this rating as I love reading Joy Ellis books about Nikki and Joseph. They are a wonderful people and they work well as a team. This book Fear on The Fens is a terrific read where you have a crazy killer and also his brother which is also has mental issues but you don't know that until later. But you need to get this book and read it for yourself.

Another instalment of Nikki and her team; this time with spooks thrown in to make things even more exciting. Murders are brutal and extreme but like always her team solve the clues and get their man … sort of. Another good read. Ready for the next instalment of Nikki, Joseph, Cat, Ben, Nial and Vonnie.

Well, the new "mellow" Nikki Galena is not as interesting as the feisty version. The story was uninteresting and far too repetitive. I'm not into faeries and goblins so, this may have had something to do with my rating.

This story with all the interesting twists and turns, not to mention the "Stargate" ESP angles kept me turning pages. But really, Ms Ellis, what went wrong? Maybe you "wrote yourself into a corner" hence the "with a bound" ending to an otherwise really good plot✴✴

Hard going..

I love Joy Ellis books, have read them all, but this was hard going at times, a lot of the book I skipped, I just couldn't get into it. The gripping parts had me gripped, but the theme of the story I found hard to accept as a serious story, too long winded and farcical. Has it put me off reading future books, I really don't know!

A strange tale
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 October 2021Verified Purchase
A very strange tale that was a very difficult read that could only be handled in short spans due mainly to the very unnatural style of dialogue- nothing that was said sounded real, and the huge number of characters which kept growing and growing. It was an interesting and unusual read albeit tiring and I did manage to get to the end. Don't think I will be reading any more by this author but everyone has their own tastes.

Wow, a really gripping thriller! A fascinating background and suspense right to the end. Love Nikki Galena and her team, but a difficult case for them to sort out. Highly recommend it!,

I always enjoy a Joy Ellis "Fens" novel and this one is no exception!
This is book #13 in the DI Nikki Galena series. Far fetched? Yes, of course - that's true of all good murder mysteries!
Nikki and Joseph have to find a savage killer but are hindered by the security services - who have plenty to hide....
I couldn't put my Kindle down. If you like Joy Ellis books, you'll enjoy this one.

Oh dear, Oh dear!!!

I have been an avid follower of Joy for a number of years now and have always given 4/5 stars and a positive appraisal ... but not so over the last 18 months. In ALL of her series the latter few books have been way below par. This latest offering in what was a superb series suffers the same problems as the others ... ponderous, too many characters, too much "jumping" about with the plot and a rushed ending ... reading the book was like wading through treacle! I have now moved onto other authors and will most probably not return to Joy Ellis .. a real shame but there we are!!
