A forgotten overlooked show
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 January 2015Verified Purchase
Barry Allen is a forensic scientist working for the police who gets struck by lightning in a freak accident while working in his lab. He recovers to find out he has super powers that give him lightning fast super speed and reflexes. After his brother a police officer is killed he becomes The Flash and hunts down the gang responsible and vows to clean up Central City. It's a long forgotten show from 1990 and with the recent new series of The Flash doing well, now is the perfect time to revisit the show. It's dated but still fun with a decent cast and based on the classic DC comic The Flash, this is the first live action version TV or film of the superhero. It's camp though nowhere near as camp as the 60's Batman TV series that everyone remembers and shows how far superhero based TV shows have come in all these years. An American import release only so make sure you have a compatible DVD player before buying and not hard to see why this got cancelled after just one season with colourful villains, Mark Hammill's The Trickster, a kind of rip off of Batman villain The Joker being the highlight and a pair of incompetent comedy sidekick cops.

Good as far as it goes

When you finish whatching this series it is simple to see why it wasn't picked up for a second season. Most plot devices are used here but it is a good watch the action as Barry Allen becomes the Flash and how he deals with the responsibility and possible disasters of being a superhero is entertaining. The bad guys are sometimes a bit unbelievable though but it is and entertaining series and worth a look

ANOTHER GREAT SHOW THAT BIT THE DUST!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 June 2007Verified Purchase
I've been waiting for a very, very long time for this superb show to appear on dvd. Never has a tv show so accurately and beautifully captured the essence, atmosphere and feeling of comic books and a classic comic book hero. Like most of the truly great genre shows of the nineties this one was just to good to last and was predictably killed off after its first season. An absolute crime of a decision by its parent network!
Beautifully shot with first rate production values and true comic book style writing the flash is a wonderful treat for comic book and non comic book fans alike. However, to be honest, it will probably appeal more strongly to the former. Buy it! You'll love it!

I love this show in the 90's. I was wondering when it would be on DVD when the show was over years later. Finally, it came out. I thought the show did justice and wished it had continued longer than it did. the new show is good, but I always felt Flash had to protrayed by an older guy, not a kid. in the old comic books their is a flash boy so to me that's a bit of a difference.
