How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good until the end...

Such a good book until the end. Unfortunately, the conclusion does not connect with the rest of the book, too quick, too shallow, too predictable. Three stars for a storyline that unfolds so masterfully, slowly giving us the details we wanted so much sooner but keeping us reading a well
developed plot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost enjoyed this book!

The reading was going mostly well until the author referenced the 2016 presidential election into the story. If it had anything to do with the story it may have been accepted but it didn't. No one really cares what her personal political views are. Unless you are writing/reading a political book, then it would have fit in. I read to get away from all the drama that is going on in the world. I almost didn't finish the book. I will stay away from this author in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Loved the lead character.

Loved the lead character and the way this book was written. The story was very compelling and kept me interested all the way through. What I didn't love was the occasional dig towards Presideent Trump and the inference that socialism would make our country better. The final chapter disappointed me as it seemed that the story end was forced as if the writer's time was up and she had to come up with a quick conclusion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Painful

While the story ends on a good note, getting there was a vocabulary lesson when I just wanted to read a good story. And way too much description made me almost want to count how many times the word 'like' was in there. Not enough conversation with others for me....the whole thing was pure introspection and I'd say 'get on with it already'. Painful. Sorry.

3.0 out of 5 stars enjoyed the book

I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed the characters but sure wish Ms Castro had not gotten so political. I’m not talking about the mining, I’m talking about the Trump hating. It really didn’t add to the story. Yes Isabel fell apart and yes Jon supported her but come on, find another way to show that. I would have given the book four stars, but those few statements soured the book for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Once gone from a poorest of the poor, to the richest of the rich, will we find happiness?

Can a backwards girl from West Virginia find riches and love in Chicago only to find her her true happiness back in West Virginia?

It took me 150 pages to get into the story. I was so ready to drop it when suddenly the plot became interesting. It was then I cared whether Isabelle was going to go back to Jon, if she was going back to her art, and finally stand up to the family.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story

Interesting story, lots of twists and turns. I never had to look up so many words before. It was distracting. The words she used fit, but even being an avid reader and having a post graduate degree, there were a fair number of words I had never seen before. Then at the end, almost every other word was the
f bomb. That too was distracting and I found it annoying.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was great until…

As I read this book, I kept marveling at how well it was written, and kept telling myself it was the best book I have read in a long time…. Until the end when it became somewhat political. I love to read; I devour books all the time— in order to escape all the turmoil of of today’s politics. The end was a disappointment. It seemed like “the easy way out” for the author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story - bad ending

To me this was an interesting story overall. I thought she went on too many side stories than I mostly skimmed through. The political thoughts didn’t bother me one way or the other, what I absolutely thought was ridiculous was the ending. She and Jon have probably the most serious conversation of their marriage ‘in a bar’ in less than probably an hour, dropping the f bomb too many times when it hadn’t been used before in the book. Geez.

3.0 out of 5 stars Marvelously Written

The author has a remarkable command of the language, gently weaving a story that is unfolding before the reader can realize what the story’s
all about.
That said, this is more of a woman’s book than a man’s. A man will ask, “ What’s it about, and answer, “ Not much.” All introspection and angst.
