#1 New York Times Bestselling Author
Stephanie Plum returns to hunt down a master cyber-criminal operating out of Trenton in the 28th book in the wildly popular series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich.
When Stephanie Plum is woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of footsteps in her apartment, she wishes she didn’t keep her gun in the cookie jar in her kitchen. And when she finds out the intruder is fellow apprehension agent Diesel, six feet of hard muscle and bad attitude whom she hasn’t seen in more than two years, she still thinks the gun might come in handy.
Turns out Diesel and Stephanie are on the trail of the same fugitive: Oswald Wednesday, an international computer hacker as brilliant as he is ruthless. Stephanie may not be the most technologically savvy sleuth, but she more than makes up for that with her dogged determination, her understanding of human nature, and her willingness to do just about anything to bring a fugitive to justice. Unsure if Diesel is her partner or her competition in this case, she’ll need to watch her back every step of the way as she sets the stage to draw Wednesday out from behind his computer and into the real world.
Praise for the Stephanie Plum series:
'The undisputed queen of the comedy beat . . . A hilarious rollercoaster ride with a heroine who would have Bridget Jones for breakfast' Guardian
'There are few crime writers who can make their readers laugh out loud at the same time as keeping the tension as high octane as this . . . For sheer uncomplicated fun, Stephanie Plum is hard to beat' Express on Sunday

... And two cars meet their maker, several bagels, some chicken and assorted doughnuts. In her usual style, our intrepid bonds enforcement agent tries to nail the big one and instead picks up a couple of hackers, a homeless person and assorted men, one of whom is Joe Morelli. Lula comes along for the shenanigans and loses her mojo along with her hairdresser and things go downhill for her from there. Always a fun and quick read.

28 Stephanie Plum books read. I cannot believe that I have come this far. How many cars destroyed? The plot is similar, some new characters, and things work out it the end. Light reading for pleasure!

As usual, this next book is as funny as others in the series, missed the usual get together with a stay over at Rangers 😉

Stephanie is attracted to Ranger...
" " " " Morelli....
" " " " Diesel....
Grandma Bella threatened someone with the eye....
Grandma Mazur is waiting at the door for Stephanie.....
Grandma Mazur considers zany job for extra income.....
Stephanie gets 2 vehicles blown up while wearing jeans, a stretchy tshirt and her hair in a ponytail ( her usual outfit of the last 26 years. ).....
Rex is in his soup can and
Her gun is in the cookie jar
I just saved you $14.99
That is ALL of the books.....The first 8 were a joy. The last 20, she has called it in. I don't even remember how this one ends and I bought it and read it all from midnight to 4:30 am....
I don't know where all of these good reviews are coming from. Maybe because the books were free. I pd. $14.99 and I'm bitter. Not really, but I am serious about the 1 star rating. Those who gave this one high marks must not have read the REAL ones. 1 - 8 were magnificent.
* Edit again....I do not understand this rating. Did I read a different book? Did they?
*Edit again.....seriously? Someone PLEASE tell me why they thought this book was worthy of this rating.
Edit x 3....how many 5 star friends does Janet have?

Ghost-writer??
Reviewed in the United States on 3 November 2021Verified Purchase
Over the last few books I have heard that people feel that Ms. Evanovich is "phoning it in". I always enjoyed each offering, even when the plots got a little weak. This is the first time I can honestly say I am seriously disappointed and I am not sure if I will be continuing with the series. It's like someone else wrote it, and decided to clean it up for a middle-school audience. Joe is sickeningly sweet, no arguments, no arm waving, no Italian hand gestures. No one swears ("what the fork"???), no even-remotely-sexy times. Lula's former profession is only referred to as a "pleasure facilitator" - the phrase "ho" is never used once. Mrs. Plum is not the same person... no why me, no hounding Steph to change jobs, get married, etc... I mean sure, someone who is chill and knits all the time is lovely but NOT Helen Plum. And we get NO Ranger or Merry Men involvement in Steph's adventures. You can't have Ranger be such a part of her life and then just write him out - he wasn't even in the wind. There wasn't even any mention of Steph's rivals, Barnhardt or Mob Princess Terry, or her usual FTA's. This book feels like a poorly written ghostwriter addition to the series. If it is time to let the series die, then let Stephanie have her happy ending. Either she settles for Joe and they get married and we are done, or she and Ranger get together and make a majority of the fans happy. But quit drawing it out if the author can't do it justice.

At the start of the book, I nearly returned it. I thought not normal Lulu again, she needs to go. Fortunately I carried on reading and it improved, enjoyable in the end. Need to see progress, particularly with Ranger and his commitments to Stephanie
