I had heard so much about this series that I eventually succumbed to the hype and bought season one. Having watched episode one I can say they obviously spent a lot of money on what are usually called "The production values" you know the sort of thing, fantastic costumes, sets and locations, beautiful photography etc. as for the story arc you will be left wondering, as I was, who the hell was who and what the hell the story is about ! As for the characters, there is only one you might care about, the young boy who was good at climbing castle walls and got shoved out of a window for his troubles (oh yes, there was also a nice doggie but speaking as a dog lover I don't intend to find out what they do to him) Given that it is generously sprinkled with unnecessary
sex and gratuitous violence (beheadings, dismembering etc.) if I want to see such things I will watch a porn/snuff film. If you want to see such things then you are just as cynical and prurient as the producers of this grotesques attempt to create an "Adult" Sword and Sorcery "Myth" Apeing such works of literature as "Lord of the Rings" etc. With apologies to Pig lovers, you can put as much lipstick as you like on a Pig but there is no way of disguising the fact it's still a Pig !

Fantastic

The first of a wonderful series. Fantastic characters, wonderful dialogue, plenty of action. There’s a lot of nudity in the first couple of series, which initially put my wife off watching it as she seemed to walk in every time there was a naked scene on (which is fairly regular I have to admit). However, don’t let that put you off (yes it’s probably a tad gratuitous) as the story and everything else is brilliant. Oh and my wife is hooked now!

Utter garbage!!!

I thought I should at least see series 1 and try to understand why this rubbish is so popular.
Thank god it cost next to nothing - as I was joining the party 10 years late. Now I can leave the party thank god!
I found the sex scenes hilarious! They are like I imagine the Carry On team would have come up with if they made Certificate 18 films!
The dialogue is also unintentionally comic - but get really good British actors to say it and some people can be convinced they’re watching Shakespeare.
Also considering they had a pretty large budget, some of the digital scenery looks cheap for something made so recently.
Terrible! Awful! Not worthy of the one star I’m forced to give it!

Game of Thrones - Season 1
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 September 2017Verified Purchase
This first season catapults us into the imaginary world of the TV blockbuster series. Right from the start our interest is sparked by the inventive beginning and we know immediately that this is something special. We are rewarded by adventure on a vast scale, which although complex, entertains again and again. New actors work along side famous names and this adds a reality and freshness to the drama. A tremendous undertaking, well produced.

Winter is coming
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 September 2015Verified Purchase
I spent a long time debating whether I would be able to view this excellent series due to the reports of extreme graphic violence. But it is shot near to where I live and I was curious - especially as so many of my friends love it. It is graphically violent almost from the start but it is also brilliantly captivating and if you are clever and careful you can look away at the pertinent points. I had had a few warnings as well.
What makes this is the brilliant casting. No one on Game of Thrones is a typical actor or is classically good looking but they are all very attractive and somehow real. the acting, scripting and production give this a style of polish that makes it totally addictive introduces the characters that really get going in series 2. And the violence and general yuk factor of series one is pretty much children's tv style compared to series 3 and 4.
If you want to see possibly the most gripping TV with some of the best acting shot in the most interesting places and unlike anything you might have ever seen before (largely modelled on the Wars of the Roses with a bit of biblical stuff thrown in) - then this is for you. But if you cringe when you watch Wolf Hall or The Tudors then you may well struggle with this. And remember it gets a lot worse ...
I love the Starks - and who wouldn't. And just remember Winter is Coming.
