In a era where explicit violence, sex, horror and gore are played out on screen in movies and television, The Gentleman is a breath of good ol' fashion action film, where the actual violence is left out and kept to your imagination. Guy Ritchie is in top form. So are all the actors, male and female, leading and supporting. Michelle Dockery's Rosalind is such a great character, smart and strong, someone who can hold her own in the company of these gentlemen. With that in mind, I wonder why there was only two female characters in the film. But I digress from my review. I thought the film was smart and engaging. Even when I thought I knew what was going on, there was more. The acting was great, the fashion was fabulous, the music was awesome. What's not to love?!?

Another wild ride from Guy .His style evolves in each of his movie without losing the underlying obvious love of his for the bad guys .And we all love the bad guys every now and then don't we ?
Hugh Grant is an absolute treat to watch and this role has established him as a great All rounder actor .
This is a thoroughly enjoyable movie .Great action, more twists than a cheap garden hose and just enough violence . The comic relief always arrives at an unexpected moment too .

Schade, dass ich hier überhaupt einen Stern geben muss. Ich habe selten so einen langweiligen, schlechten und enttäuschenden Film gesehen. Dabei hatte ich mich so gefreut, endlich mal wieder einen Film mit Hugh Grant zu sehen. Der Trailer versprach einiges, auch der Text auf dem DVD Cover machte Hoffnung. Was ich dann zu sehen bekam, war eine Zumutung. Der erste Teil ist so langweilig, dass ich direkt nach 20 Minuten weggenickt bin. Als ich schließlich nach ein paar Minuten wieder wach war, wurde es nicht besser. Es wird unendlich geredet und geredet und geredet. Die Handlung ist komplett konstruiert und durch die ständigen Zeitsprünge verwirrend. Die Sprache ist vulgär und das nervt nach einer Weile ganz gewaltig. Schade, das kann Guy Ritchie aber bedeutend besser. Auch von Matthew McConaughey und Charlie Hunnam habe ich schon viel, viel Besseres gesehen und Hugh Grants Rolle fand ich furchtbar. Das sollte wohl eine Gangsterkomödie werden. Herausgekommen ist ein langweiliger Film, der das Ansehen nicht lohnt.

Habe den Film aufgrund der positiven Bewertungen und der Besetzung gekauft, und muss sagen, dass das ein ganz großer Fehler war. Ich kann nicht nachvollziehen, woher die positiven Bewertungen kommen. Der Film ist einfach nur verworren und langweilig. Nach der Hälfte hätte ich am liebsten abgeschaltet, und hätte es wohl auch tun sollen, denn besser wurde es nicht mehr. Man könnte meinen, dass sowohl der Regisseur, als auch die Darsteller zuviel von dem Zeug geraucht haben, um das es in dem Film geht. Oder ich zuwenig, um den Quatsch gut zu finden. Absolute Geldverschwendung.

Was an "The Gentlemen" sehenswert sein soll, ist mir absolut schleierhaft. Meines Erachtens versagt der Film auf wirklich allen Ebenen kläglich.

Ein langweiliger und verworrener (aber nicht im Sinne von intelligent-komplizierter) Plot, fade Darsteller und die Ästhetik bzw. der "Stil" - von der Kleidung über die Szenen - irgendwo zwischen metrosexuell-möchtegern-hart und "elegant". Dieser Film ist weder witzig noch intelligent oder unterhaltsam bzw. spannend. Stattdessen wird Klischee an Klischee gereiht und mit ordentlich Vulgarität garniert. Das hat man alles so oder so ähnlich schon mal und fast immer nur besser gesehen. Teilweise wirkt "The Gentlemen" sehr stark gewollt statt gekonnt und eher zum Fremdschämen...

Fazit: "The Gentlemen" ist wirklich eine Enttäuschung auf ganzer Linie. Sparen Sie sich die Zeit und das Geld.

Ritchie`s Neues Kapitel

Guy Ritchie hat mal wieder ein gutes Händchen mit diesem Kammerstück bewiesen. Nach seinen Gangsterballaden SNATCH, ROCK N`ROLLA, REVOLVER und einer jahrelangen Schaffenspause erschien der stimmige GENTLEMEN. Alle Darsteller wurde zu ihren Figuren passend ausgewählt. Die Struktur der Handlung ist abwechslungsreich und stimmig. Habe mich sofort in den Film verliebt. Einer der Besten von Richie.. Allen voran McConaughey dessen Darbietung eines eleganten Dandys einem den Schritt feucht werden lässt, sobald er die Bühne betritt. Besonders freute es mich für Colin Farrell, der einen kleidungstechnisch unpassenden Boxtrainer spielt und zeitweise Matthew die Show stielt. Also Preis-, Qualität- und Unterhaltung volle Punktzahl.
