Well, that was some 3rd act. This book. What can I even say? The series went from a fantastic premise with skillful prose (the style alone is well worth the read), to one of my favourite series ever. Other than the entire thing being epic, aching and simultaneously real and surreal, the love story in this is one of the most interesting, believable and impossible to put down I have read in a long time. I also hugely appreciated how much you get of it in this one... It was a slow smolder before (not terribly so, the right amount for tension and believable development I thought), but this book is the fire. And I am here for it.

Without spoiling anything, I have to say I truly respected the fact that there are no cheap tricks or hackneyed traps, comedy of errors style misfortunes or typical plot 'go-to' devices relied on here for the arcs... Every time I thought 'ohhh noooo, she did this - now this is definitely going to happen...' it developed in a very different and much more satisfying way. So bravo - a high level execution of a beautiful piece of work. I only wish I could give an extra few stars for style, because it deserves the whole 5 for the story and characters alone.

I feel like I've been waiting for 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐦 to be released for my whole entire life and so when it came into the world on the 31st I dropped everything so that I could finally get back into this Midas' touch retelling. I stumbled across this series earlier in the year (thanks Bookstagram!) And honestly, I didn't know I had it in me to "fangirl" but hey, here I am. Sign me up for the shirt, the art prints, mugs. I'm sold and I want it!

Anyway, this series just gets better with each book and with no sign of the excitement dropping off I am well and truly pumped for book 4 which is due to release in 2022.

Glint (which was the second book) finished on a cliffhanger that near killed me, and so I was expecting the same kind of thing with Gleam, but no it finished perfectly which I am so grateful for. When I think of the series all together it's like the perfect snowball rolling down the hill getting bigger, more impressive and exciting as it gets closer to the end!

The #Aurip scenes were sensational and had plenty of🌶 🥵

If you haven't read this series you need to get onto it pronto. I don't even want to write any more about it because I think you should just read it. Now.

Everyone needs a bit of Slade/Rip in their lives

Well if you are this far into this series, then you are already emotionally invested in the characters of this book.
I think this has been the best set of books from Raven Kennedy, her development of the story was so interesting and kept me hooked till the end.
Slade/Rip's PoV came across as breath of fresh air and made me want to revisit book 2 again as you get a glimpse into the first encounter with his Goldfinch. You are just rooting for her to choose him, his love for her is just beautiful.
Auren, continues to grow and develop from the lacklustre insipid woman in book 1 to someone who is trying to take steps to forge her own way on her terms.
You learn more about the background of King Midas, watch his gaslighting of Auren and you start to hate him with a vengeance.
We are introduced to a new key character, Queen Kaila and whether she, along with Auren and Malina eventually face off as the lead females, I am really interested to see where we end up.
Cannot believe we have to waiit an entire year for book 4 which is devastating! Going back to read that bedroom scene again...

Book one was the worst. So bad. And some lines in these books are really really really really really unnecessary and just women hating, without having any impact on story or anything - it’s like, oh here’s a random stranger walking past out MC, let’s have him make a really derogatory comment about her body for no reason at the f all. Why. Why? No, really, WHY?
At least in this one she manages to gain some ground after all the abuse she has had to endure. But, still, it’s not great. It’s not even good. How are these books so popular, I just don’t get it.
I think I’m done here.

I took my time savouring every page and I am in shock . Do you hear me, shock?!! This is hands down the best series of 2021... possibly the best I've read in years! The dynamic between #Aurip is pure poetry...What relationship are made of. I can go on an on but I need to go lie down from exhaustion . Whew...I can't believe it's over...I know book 4 is months away and I will be mourning the loss of these characters until then. Raven is a master!!

My journey with this series had a rough start. I attempted to read Gild twice before it finally gripped me on the third time. And you know what? This is a prime example (for me, personally) of why I love to give books more than one chance to pull me in.

Gild is definitely our scene setting/character introduction and I completely fell in love with Auren. What some may see as weak, many actually know from personal experience how it’s easy to love someone that shows you kindness I’m a life filled with nothing but disappointment and abuse.

In Glint, my love for Auren only grew and the piece around her own acceptance really nestled itself deep in my soul. Plus, ya know, Rip. What a freaking character.

Gleam is, most definitely, in my top 5 books read this year. The development, the pace, the spice, the absolute heartbreak. I read it in two sittings (and only because I had to work).

Raven Kennedy has given the legend we all know a very fresh perspective. It’s clever, heart wrenching, sexy and just all around a brilliant freaking book.

Glow (book 4) is one of my most anticipated reads of 2022

The plot seemed to jog on at a fair pace but I found myself skimming over a lot of the story in the second half. To be honest, I think three books would have been ideal if some of her flppping back and forth had been cut out. There’s still a fair bit of self doubt and wimpy moments from
Auren that we still need to bear witness to. Unfortunately, she still has to get rescued from her self at the end by King Rot, despite him being bloody useless throughout most of the book when the verbal abuse turns physical. Overall it was just a frustrating book to read.

I feel like I’d be right in saying this series was pretty slow burn and world building for the first two (until that cliffy?!?!?!)
In Gleam my heart fell so much more in love with Auren. She’s such a strong woman to have come this far and not fallen to pieces.
With books that have this kind of girth there’s always the worry that half will be waffle but you don’t have to worry with this one - SO SOooo good 👏🏻 I found myself reading too quickly then going back and re reading so I didn’t miss anything 😂 I can’t wait to see where Raven goes with this story.
