A true-story full of intrigue, drama, tension about a guy, Kenny, from Nevada desperate for a win in his gold prospecting effort. High-profile geologist Acosta helps him to find out a gold mine in midst of the Indonesian jungle. They almost have to give up due to challenging conditions but close to being broke and suffering from malaria fever they struck a huge lode. Investors, banks and the stock market all try to take a share of what seems to be the find of the century. And Kenny succumbs to a life of excess and materialism.
It’s a story about ambition, entrepreneurship and persistence. If you like to learn more about gold prospecting and mining, this is actually a very interesting movie. Perhaps there could have been, but there isn’t, more of an allusion the ethical implications of third world profiteering.
With this movie you’ll get a suburb performance by a once more transformed again, now bald, McConaughey - if anything the movie provides another platform for him to shine his talents.
I must admit I was quite entertained by the movie and found the end particularly intriguing. So I don’t understand the poor media coverage it got at the time and the weak Rottentomato scores.

"Gold" DVD .

The DVD "Gold" with Matthew McConaughey was for me a bit of a let down. I really found it
difficult to follow the McConaughey character's dialogue - with him with a cigarette in his mouth
and a bottle in his hand.
So much of the time with the main player acting almost under the influence , took a lot of the enjoyment away from story.

Fairly entertaining fare. Quite a number of continuity issues, particularly with those of the actors who were involved in dialogue whilst smoking cigarettes. For my money Christian Bale would have been better suited in the part played by Matthew McConaughey (Kenny Wells) as McConaughy didn't quite have the weight, in terms of gravitas, that Bale brings to a part. Personal preference...obviously. Didn't quite work for me, it smacked somewhat of the Wolf of Wall Street/American Hustle. Not terrible.
