The Good Lie Kindle Edition
Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.
Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives—predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning—and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development…
Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.
As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret.

Great read! Personally, for me it is not a 5 star as I felt as though it could be longer with more details and character development, however I understand that this book was more about an event, oppose to a story where the characters decisions and emotions needed to be explained. It was short, quick but entertaining right through. It was a little predictable and fairly unrealistic, considering it is set in LA, a huge city where they likelihood of the connections being so close together is a stretch.
Regardless of the above, I liked being inside the mind of the protaganist as the pieces started piecing together with an element of romance, even if unorthodox. Plus, the psychoanalysis was fun, given I am share the same wonder of what makes violent people, violent.
All in all, not a bad book but not a great book. Would recommend!
Gwen Moore is a psychologist who specialises is patients with violent and dangerous fantasies, she comes across as a confident successful lady who knows her job well and is very good at it.
She meets Defense Attorney Robert Kavin in a bar one night and they click. They get talking and realise they have more in common than she first thinks. Robert has lost his only son to The Bloody Heart Killer aka BH Killer and he hires Gwen to do a profile on the man that has been arrested for the crimes, Robert thinks he is innocent and intends to represent him. As you can imagine this causes some whispers behind closed doors and this is where the fun really starts.
There are more twists and turns in this book than you will ever imagine. just when you think you have it all worked out this author takes the reader on a different path and not just once either but many times.
Loved it so much. I opened this book and literally could not put it down. Brilliant phycological thriller you won't want to miss.

The “Bloody Heart” BH killer, is one of the most depraved serial killers and he is difficult to profile and almost impossible to catch. He wants to be famous; he wants credit for each kill, he toys with his victims for weeks before killing them, but he leaves no signs and no evidence. The BH killer is controlled, organised, intelligent and analytical but a showman who displays the bodies spread-eagled, the genitals removed, a heart carved into the chest of each victim (his calling card), and their pinkie finger removed. Yet there are inconsistencies, there is evidence that the killer is showing acts of kindness because some of the wounds inflicted during their captivity have been treated. Why? And Who is this person?
Dr Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist, treating patients with violent tendencies. As well as being notified by police that her patient John Abbott may have murdered his wife Brooke before committing suicide, Gwen is approached by defense attorney, Robert Karin, to help profile the serial killer. He is convinced that his client is innocent and Scott Harden who accused his client of the abduction and murder knows more than he is saying. What complicates the story even more is the personal connection Robert has to the case, for his own son was also murdered by the BH Killer.
This book is multi layered, with a cast of convincing characters that seem interconnected in some way, but the link is difficult to make, and too many people are keeping secrets which further heightens the tension in the book. The story telling is superb, and the author uses their knowledge and / or research of the topic of psychology and personality disorder to write a very credible book with a wicked plot, lots of red herrings and an unpredictable ending.
This is one of the most captivating psychological thrillers with an outstanding plot full of suspense and tension. If you haven’t read already, get a copy, then sit down and put your seat belt on because you are in for one hell of a ride.
This was such a gripping book to read, it had me on the edge of my seat many times and had my mind working over time trying to work it all out. A brilliantly written thriller that blew my mind and i couldn't put it down, I loved everything about it! Wow!!!
