Product description
About the Author
Allen Carr (1934-2006) was a chain-smoker for over 30 years. In 1983, after countless failed attempts to quit, he went from 100 cigarettes a day to zero without suffering withdrawal pangs, without using willpower and without gaining weight. He realised that he had discovered what the world had been waiting for - the Easy Way to Stop Smoking - and embarked on a mission to help cure the world's smokers.
Easyway has grown to become a global phenomenon with seminar centres in 150+ cities in more than 50 countries around the world. Allen Carr's Easyway books, online video programmes, and live group seminars have helped an estimated 50 million smokers worldwide. A vast majority of those happy non-smokers became aware of the method as a result of personal recommendation from their friends, family, and colleagues.
Allen Carr is now recognised as the world's leading expert on helping smokers to quit and has sold over 16 million books on the topic. His Easyway method has been successfully applied to a host of issues including weight control, alcohol and other addictions and fears. In 2006, Allen was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away that November handing responsibility for Easyway over to his closest and most trusted colleagues.
John first met Allen in 1997 after he attended Allen's clinic in London and was cured of his 80-a-day addiction to cigarettes. So inspired was he by this experience that he determined to become involved in Allen's quest to cure the world of smoking. He was successful in this aim and describes the subsequent training he received from both Allen and Robin Hayley, now Chairman of Allen Carr's Easyway, as one of the best experiences of his life, and feels honoured and privileged to have counted Allen not only as his coach and a mentor, but also a friend.
John went on to personally treat more than 30,000 smokers at Allen's original London clinic, and led the team that have taken Allen's method around the world from Berlin to Bogota, from New Zealand to New York, from Sydney to Santiago. Drawing on the real-life experience of this global team of therapists, John worked closely with Allen and Robin to apply the method to alcohol, weight issues, fear of flying, gambling, debt, sugar addiction, caffeine addiction and a whole host of legal and illegal drugs. John is now the Worldwide CEO of Allen Carr's Easyway Organisation and one of the most experienced Allen Carr's Easyway Therapists in the world.

Firstly, this book doesn't just want you to give up chocolate. It includes bread, pasta and potatoes. Ok, fine. I know they're not the best foods to eat, and if you're willing to put yourself through that then good for you.
It repeatedly calls BAD SUGAR "poisons". Say what you like about chocolate and cake, but you will never get me to consider potatoes poisonous.
It claims that all BAD SUGARS are empty calories. Now, I'm no dietitian, but it is my understanding that you do get some fibre from carbs.
He is OBSESSESD with fruit. He would have us eat nothing else.
Apparently, none of this stuff actually tastes good. That's just not true. Mashed potatoes are amazing, and I could happily live off Creme Eggs for the rest of my life (hence why I bought the book in the first place).
It finishes by telling you to eat your last meal and vow to never BAD SUGAR again. Seriously, no one could ever consider this realistic.
Finally, I hate the way it's written. It's like a rambling lecture. Like when your off the grid vegan co-worker goes off on one (to be fair though the smoking one was written in a similar manner).
In summary, not only did the book not work, it was a chore to read. I did finish it, but only because I thought "maybe it's working and I'm just not noticing". I then went and had a creme egg.

One word of advice though, I find with these books you have to choose to allow them to work. For example, there might be the odd fact or statement which you don’t think is completely true, don’t worry about these. Just decide to believe in the books and they will work for you. If you don’t think it has worked, commit to believing in the book and read it again. It will work for you.
Another tip is the audio book is only 3.99 once you’ve bought the ebook. I found listening to the audio book while reading the words at the same time was the most powerful way of getting the information into my brain.

I went to NYC. I ate sugar. Lots of it. But the strangest thing happened. I didn’t enjoy it. Not once. But nor could I stop myself. Everything the book talks about. Clear as daylight I finally saw my “love” of sweets for what it was. Addiction.
I returned home and I’ve not had refined sugar since. I took the lessons of the book seriously. No longer would it be about willpower. That’s not to say there weren’t difficulties. Of course the first month or two is the hardest. But I soon discovered my love of fruits and after a few months I had ZERO desire for refined sugar.
I’m through to the other side and couldn’t be happier. A year ago I couldn’t walk past a plate of sweets. And once I started I you could be sure the whole plate would be gone! Now a mars bar has as much appeal as a stick of chalk. Seriously, you’ll be that indifferent to sweets.
Read the book. Put aside your ego. Rediscover your love of real food. Enjoy your freedom.

I find the writing style in this book rather SHOUTY and at times the information is repetitive but it is quite easy to read. Basically the messages are sound, the method is just the same as for stopping smoking, and the steps are relatively easy to follow. It's mostly about understanding how your mind works in relation to things you think are 'nice and can't do without'. Once you've nailed that you're sorted!
