Review
[A] fast-paced, fun debut thriller. ― Publishers Weekly
Through the carnage, Gentry remains an intriguing protagonist with his own moral code. Comparisons will be made to Jason Bourne, but the Gray Man is his own character. The ending screams for a sequel, but it will be difficult to maintain the intensity level of this impressive debut. ― Booklist
Here is a debut novel like a well-honed dagger: sharp, merciless, and deadly. Mark Greaney's The Gray Man is Bourne for the new millennium. ― James Rollins
Writing as smooth as stainless steel and a hero as mean as razor wire The Gray Man glitters like a blade in an alley. ― David Stone
A high-octane thriller that doesn't pause for more than a second. For readers looking for a thriller where the action comes fast and furious, this is the ticket. ― Chicago Sun Times

Gripping activity all the way and never a dull moment. Seems to belittle the skills, and stamina, of his opponents though, but the “bad guys” are always hampered by some level of “bad luck” Stands to reason I guess.
Still, very well worth the read.

This book is wonderful, fabulous writing, locations, characters, development, action, it has it all. I’m genuinely gutted I’ve finished it but I guess I’ll just have to move on to the second installment...
The Grey man is a ghost who moves in the shadows and is the very, very best at what he does. When he is double crossed he has to take matters into his own hands to right the wrongs and save the family of the man who crossed him.
Gentry is a one man waking army, from the opening scene where he saves a young army officers life from militant Taliban soldiers to the final parts of the book in France, it’s just none stop action and flows so well. Greaney is a superb writer.
Can’t rate this book highly enough.

While the Gray Man is a figure of legend, Court Gentry is a flesh and blood man and this is what I liked most about the book, is that he wasn't some all powerful, untouchable machine... he gets hurt and by hurt I mean real bloody, he is sometime ruled by his heart more than his head and gets himself into trouble as much as he gets out of it. This makes him feel like a real person and added a palpable feel of danger to the story as he squares off against a veritable army of killers in order to save some innocents from his past.
This was taught, well thought out break neck action at its best, a brilliant mix of gunplay, spy craft and hand to hand action. The author obviously knows his stuff. I enjoyed this book so much I immediately bought book two when I finished this. If you like action thrillers then I highly recommend this read.

Some action books try and build life around the protagonist but Mark Greaney managed to give Court Gentrey more personality in a book that contained pure action than these other books do by having them have personal lives.
Not only have I fallen in love with a new action hero but I'm wholly backing him to succeed every time. If any first book in a series really wanted to introduced their protagonist as a badass, this book did it. Thoroughly looking forward to reading the sequel and all sequential books!

Make sure you run in the opposite direction to where the Gray Man is because he will most likely be in the middle of a crazy all guns blazing fight. Here we are introduced to Court Gentry as an elite assassin with a conscience who is usually hunting his target but he has now become the hunted.
There are now seven books in the series and this is the first, On Target is the second in the series, followed by Ballistic.
A great all action book where you can switch your brain off from convoluted plots and enjoy the roller coaster ride.
