3.0 out of 5 starsFun Film With Disappointing Image Quality (2K Upscale)
Reviewed in Australia on 4 December 2017
Guardians 2 suffers from having to try to live up to the first film, it is not as good as the previous entry but it is still an entertaining ride for fans of Marvel.

To be honest the film on its own would get 4 stars from me easily but I was let down by the 4K presentation, although the HDR colours are vivid and great looking, the film was only mastered at 2K even though they shot at 6k / 8K resulting in a loss in sharpness, its a let down when the Blade Runner remaster from the 80s looks a great deal sharper than this.

I would stick with the standard Bluray release unless you have a great OLED to really appreciate the colour.

An author writes a book on their own. A comic book may have two authors (artist & story-writer). A film requires enormous up-front finance these days, dozens of people, etc. This may explain why "First in the marvellous new series..." feels natural where a book is concerned, but "sequel" in films screams "The first one made money! Quick!! Let's write another & cash in!!!" Despite the fact that GotG is "based on" Marvel Comics superhero characters, this is exactly how these films feel to me. Longish review shortened - GotG1 is decent, 4*; GotG2 is a duff cash-in, 2*. Average that out - 3*.

I am NOT a comic book fan. I've read the odd one here & there. Watchmen was damn fine & so was the film. But comic books have mostly passed me by, Marvel superhero stuff entirely so. I've happily escaped the money-making franchise mushroom that has appeared over the past decade or so. But GotG looked like fun, and this pack gives me both so...

GotG on film is as shallow as a puddle. If there's any depth to the comic books, it's not shown in either film. Consequently as a non-reader, I'm sure there's back-story & stuff that I'm utterly unaware off. And I can feel it; that things I should know are missing. This is not a good start. For all that, GotG can, I think, be fairly described as an SF action-adventure romp. It's fun but without any depth. Characters are cardboard cut-outs at best, wholly one dimensional if not. It's crash, bang, wallop, knockabout fun with gags & comedy side-kicks. Nothing wrong with that. It's 4*.

I don't know what they thought were doing with GotG2. I don't know whether it's actually based on a genuine GotG story, or whether it was written for the film. But it's duff. The plot is dodgy anyway, but then they load 3 sub-plots onto a script that has a dodgy premise & would struggle to support one sub-plot. The chuckles diminish, the SFX are... only what we've seen before, the crash bang wallop keeps getting interrupted with dull philosophising / moralising, "Why do you hate me / why don't you love me / how can you be like this" shizzle that simply doesn't work in the shallow universe we see. Oh, plus it is ENTIRELY predictable. Meh.

Let's put it like this - 1 is worth having, 2 isn't really, 3 is currently shelved. And if it becomes unshelved, I won't be taking any interest, given what 2 was like. I can't remember the prices I saw when I added GotG to my Wishlist, but if the price for this pack is close to the price for 1 alone, then buy the pack; you might as well. If it's not... 1 is worth spending a few quid for; 2 isn't.

1.0 out of 5 stars Faulty product - avoid

I bought this 4k Blu Ray new with Prime delivery and assumed that meant it had been sold by Amazon. Didn't watch it for a month and when I did it has all sorts of crazy glitches - chapter thumb nail pops up without prompting on each chapter, major glitching. Disc is unblemished, so I assume it is a manufacturer fault. I tried to solve this problem with Amazon and they've claimed the order was from a third party seller despite their being no option to leave seller feedback. Being forced to jump through hoops now to return a faulty product because Amazon are lying and not providing any customer service.

Movie is 5 out of 5. 4K Blu Ray and Amazon service equals zero stars.

More (mis)adventures of Starlord and Marvels band of alien misfits. This time while trying to escape from an arrogant race of Golden skinned narcissists (The Sovereign) having stolen valuable batteries, the Guardians encounter a powerful being called Ego who claims to be Starlord's father.
I watched this in the cinema as I am a fan of the MCU, and bought the Blu Ray as I like to collect all the MCU movies. Not the worst movie nor the best Marvel have to offer, the space battle scenes are a little cluttered and hard to follow, and the constant attempts at humour grate a little.

3.0 out of 5 stars Vol. 1 - brilliant. Vol. 2 - mediocre.

We watched (and recorded) "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1" when it was shown on TV, and were delighted by it - so we were very keen to watch vol. 2. What a disappointment! It's not as funny, or as thought provoking, or as entertaining as vol. 1. It just seems to be an attempt to cash in on the popularity of vol. 1.

This film is definitely not as good as the first one. It is too centered round their leader Peter Quill and his past and not enough out in space and battling the current enemy.
Let us hope that they get back to the real thud and blunder that we all love.

A bit of a disappointment, in how it went all narnia (great special effects though) and the main storyline 'starlords' father... If the scriptwriters are planning a takedown of the mighty 'Thanos' in volume 3, it should be an enjoyable watch... I'm not holding my breath...

Eye candy nonsense that bypasses the brain. No idea what the second film was about other than some stolen batteries!???
You are either a fan or not really. I wouldn't bother watching it again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Volume 2 is disappointing

The first film was ok but volume 2 is disappointing. There is too much screaming and scenes that do not fit into the story. The action is too much copy and paste from other movies. The storyline is poor.
