Product description
A love story in reverse: How I Met Your Mother is a fresh new comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. When Ted's best friends Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lilly (Alyson Hannigan) decide to tie the knot it sparks the search for his own Miss Right. Helping him in his quest is his bar-hopping "wing-man" Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a confirmed bachelor with plenty of wild schemes for picking up women. Ted's sites are set on the charming and independent Robin (Cobie Smulders), but destiny may have something different in mind. Told through a series of flashbacks, Ted recalls his single days, the highs and lows of dating and the search for true love. But after the first few episodes I started to notice the sublime humour, the wit and sophistication of the seemingly basic dialogues, and sometimes wonderfully random and almost surreal comments and reactions. Marshall is my absolute favourite in that respect, with his way of filling an awkward silence by saying "so... fish are weird eh?". Reminds me ever so slightly of Monthy Python, purely because of the randomness and the twisted, abstract humour. If you're not attuned to this type of humour you might not see anything special about How I Met Your Mother. But if you are, you're in for a real treat! I find the jokes and banter absolutely spot on, not too simple, not too complex, and every now and then I hear a line that's so brilliant it's almost... delicious - if you're sensitive to the beauty of spoken word and language in general, you'll know what I mean.

Other reviewers have noted the similarities to Friends, but it's the subtle differences that make this show worth watching for those of us who were teenagers while the Central Perk gang were on TV. Now we're in out 20's and our friends are getting married, getting houses or worrying about selling out to a job that was nothing like they'd planned.
Now it's Ten Years on it's our turn, the jokes are snappier, the scenarios a little more risque, and the outfits are more to our taste!
I want my very own Barney to cheer me up when I'm down. Neil Patrick Harris manages to make Barney much deeper than you'd originally expect. Alyson Hannighan is also on top-form. After the first few scenes you can't even spot "Willow" from Buffy through the confident, bohemian Lily!
Marshall is the big strong sensitive guy we all want to hug.
Robyn is a well rounded strong female character and she delivers some of the shows more subtle jokes (In my opinion)
And the viewer really can care about Ted's search for true Love! He's not a saint though, but that's where his partnership with Barney makes "How I met your Mother" worth repeated viewing.

The first season revolving around Ted talking to his 2 children about how he met their mother, starting 30 years back when he realised that he wants to meet the one and get married after best friends Marshall and Lily get engaged. The season follows Ted with his search for the one, Marshall and Lilys engagement, other their other friend Robin's career and Barneys urge to Suit up.
A brilliantly written show, with superb acting. One of the best and funniest comedy sitcoms on at the moment.
