I nearly didn’t read this book; another Holocaust story ? No!
It’s hard to believe that their was such cruelty placed on such lovely people. This story is told by an elderly man called Eddie Jacu. Beautifully written, with a moving humility it’s not full of hatred, it is filled with love and hope.
Each chapter is a story, lessons learned, a message for all and with a sense of humour. An easy read, easy to get into. You can feel the warmth of Eddie on each page.
A truly wonderful read.

I think that this is a very admirable man … but the story has been told before (this is not a real criticism but it was too concerned with what happened and not what I was looking for which was why and how I could use that information myself). This is not to denigrate the author at all. I did expect a bit more from the book tho. I did not really feel that I could share in the why of his new (and very positive) outlook … but I may have not really have appreciated it fully perhaps, oddly enough, because of reading Victor Frankl’s book ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’.

I really appreciate you writing this book Eddie. It became one of the best books for me. I actually bought it without reading any reviews (I liked how he named the book) and surprisingly this is worth reading. I can’t imagine how tough his life had gone through it was so difficult, painful and he still call himself “the happiest man on earth” and yes he really is.

There’re so many great moments and inspirational lines from this book also very powerful, touching, heartbreaking and I was so sobbing uncontrollably 😭

Everyone should read!

(Update : Eddie Jaku has died at age 101 #12October2021. Rest In Peace, the happiest man on earth 🤍)

This book had me in tears often, mainly in sadness but for joy also. The suffering this man and his fellow inmates endured is beyond belief yet he did not allow this to destroy him as it so easily could. He was a happy man and made a great life for himself and his family. I bought this book because I saw him interviewed on TV and he so impressed me I had to read it. This book should be required reading at all schools for its educational value. He was a great man and I am so glad he chose my country to live in, we are a better country for having had him in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful story

I agree with comments about similar stories having been shared before and it’s great to get that the manliest man on earth found encouragement not only to share his story with a wonderful perspective of what kept him going and helped survive the sorrows, but also from a perspective of a 100 yo man who had 75 years after that experience to enjoy the life for himself and for those dear to his heart. Even though it is not an easy story to tell, it is very well written to n and easy to follow. I would say it’s written very “light” if it’s appropriate to say. Read it with great pleasure in one go the day I received the delivery and hope other people will enjoy it as much as I did.

Stories like Eddie’s are so important. His suffering and courage are staggering. He is open about his struggles but his emphasis is on hope and building a better future. This is the kind of book that makes you grateful for having read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving experience

The author, Eddie Jaku, is 100 years old. His autobiography is an easy read, simply told, no embellishments needed because his life experiences are beyond our direst imaginings. The voice of truly stoic, faithful, respectful, genuinely happy person shines through on every page.
This book should be essential reading in every high school in Australia, indeed throughout the world. Essential reading for people contemplating marriage and children, to help them understand the importance of love and kindness in family life.
The message throughout is essentially about the danger and futility of hate vs the fullness of love. A truly beautiful life.

Eddie is an amazing gentleman who has lived through the worst war time experiences in brutal concentration camps, his entire family murdered…despite humiliation, torture, starvation, he survived. Choosing not to hate but to love his book tells a story of kindness and love as Eddie flourishes along with his beautiful wife and family…..living well at 100…
