The world teeters on the brink of destruction.
The people who should be saving the Earth ignore Jason Asano's warnings and choose to loot the house as it burns down around them. He lacks the strength to save the world himself, but resolves to do it anyway, impossible be damned.
The impossible, in this case, means seizing a power that no mortal should touch. It's a choice from which there is no turning back, and marks Jason's first step into a wider cosmos that he is not yet ready to face.
Holding the fate of two worlds in his hands, Jason must decide for himself what home truly means.

This volume lacks the soul of previous works. A lot of time is wasted in early chapters re-explaining literally what just happened in the previous chapter. The main character is extremely dour throughout the whole book and his usual wittiness is severely lacking throughout. There is very little ‘fun’ in this very short book, and the remaining characters are poor substitutes for the mc’s adventuring party which have been absent for far too many books. It saddens me that the next book has been flagged as the final in the series and yet there hasn’t been any real ‘meat’ to the story for quite a while. We can only hope that the finale is much larger than this short wrap up of life on earth and that the mc regains his positive if arrogant attitude for the last book. The lack of zingers in this book is keenly felt.

Quality of writing is as good as ever but plot-wise this entry in the series feels much like an idea stretched very thin and padded out with filler. Reusing the same conflict scenario in one book, no sense of power from powerful enemies and a notable lack of witty wordplay were disappointing. However the key moments of progression are solid as ever and we get a real sense of Jason's emotional growth. Looking forward to the next book!

Another fantastic skirt from Shirtaloon, seriously the guy is a genius. Loved the book, can't wait for the next one. Extra chapters at the end are a great bonus on their own and would love to read more like that.

This series is amazing my only concern at the moment is that Amazon keeps telling me it's 6/7. And I really want more than just one more book.
Multidimensional travel personal growth, epic battles. It's darn good.

I really enjoyed this book, this author is able to get to laugh out loud so much. The plot, characters and action are really good. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Since stumbling over Monsters V1 as an audible daily deal a couple of months ago I have roared through all 6 books (I had a 4 week wait between 5 & 6 as I waited for it to be released which was somewhat traumatic).
These are good fun rollicking adventures that remind us why stories are so important.
Loving these books… is … kind of my thing 😄

The worst thing about this series is having to wait between boks to read the next instalment. The best series in the genre in my humble opinion and keeps getting better and better as it goes on.

A vast improvement over book 5

Really enjoyed this latest addition. It felt like nothing really happened but at the same time there was just so much. It felt like book 5 and 6 were originally 1 book. Book 5 got loads of extra filler drama and finished with the last 25% missing, whereas book 6, being the remaining 25%, had all of its action scences doubled (not in length but in occurance) in order to make a stand alone book. They complement each other even if they felt like they could have been better if left as a single book, all be it a lot shorter than what is now, as 2 separate books. Either way. 2 slightly diminished books in this series are still way better than the majority in the genre. Speaks of quality. I hope you enjoyed this book and the entire series as much as I have and hopefully will.

He who speaks to our soul

It is rare to find great literature that is both flippant and deeply philosophical. It seems He fights monsters but it is his own that the real battle is about. Burning away that which doesn't serve us, taking on responsibility and bending but never breaking. Add a dose of court jester into the plays of power and we just need a whale and a father for the whole truth of humanity's struggle to be laid out and discussed in the guise of litrpg. Adventure, the final frontier.

I don't often write reviews. However this book and the series in general is amazing. I absolutely love the humour, so will you!
The writing is exquisite, the characters are engaging and the world building is top shelf.
Please, if you read this review and haven't yet started to read this series I'm begging you to go to the first book and start. You will not be disappointed.
As always the gripping writing and story line leaves you wanting more. Every book is a book tou struggle to put down....

This book consistently had me excited. I must say that it is mostly about Jason, even more so than other books. It nevertheless keeps you excited through out and I was honestly on the edge of my seat most of the time.
This book is the amalgamation of the mostly tough time Jason has had especially since returning to Earth. I do admit that it was rounded up quite nicely and loose ends were tied up well in a way that wasn’t rushed.
I loved the epilogues as well, they just got me so excited for the next book in the series.
I would recommend for any fan of progression fantasies to be honest. It’s a beautiful world created by the author Shirtaloon.

Another fantastic volume in a fantastic series

He Who Fights With Monsters has been a favourite series of mine for quite some time. The fact that the main character is not the overpowered godlike creature who can solve anything with a snap of the fingers and a city-destroying explosion is part of it, but mostly it is the human insight and humour that weaves its way through many of the pages, without ever turning the story into a slapstick comedy.
