TOP 50 REVIEWER
4.0 out of 5 starsINTERESTING, BUT VERY ANGSTY 3.5 STARS
Reviewed in Australia on 31 July 2022
I haven’t read a narrative centring around young adults in ages, but Colleen Hoover made it interesting, focusing on the typical vulnerabilities of this demographic, as well as vulnerabilities particular to main characters, Beyah and Samson.
‘Heart Bones’ focuses on the theme of trust, acceptance and finding your place to belong (including people to belong to). It’s actually quite sad (angsty too) and confronting at times with various, personal, unseen challenges ... some overwhelming, secretive and dark.
The concluding chapters had me thinking, yeh I know where we’re heading plot wise, but there was a surprising twist that I wasn’t expecting. It all ended in a turbulent way, but with a healthy slice of hope. Why ‘Heart Bones’? Because if hearts break, they would need bones. Bones can heal, so hearts can heal, too. See – angsty as it gets.

More like a romance novel than a mystery. But a good read . Gets a little bit too mushy and everything works out so rosey and perfect . Not exactly real life , but a good escape an ok book

The style of this writing is up my alley. Fast paced with nice amount of detail. Story wasn’t sourly predictable and overall entertaining.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5⭐️ Sweet but needed more

I thought I was going to enjoy this a lot more than I did sadly! The cover is beautiful, and it was good so I’m glad I read it however I definitely think Colleen’s other books are a lot better. I just found the characters slightly boring and I thought the plot was underdeveloped and pacing was off: I needed more between the climax and then a 4 year time jump etc etc. Overall, it was a decent read but I have read better by CoHo.

The book is printed from Amazon themselves which I don’t know how to feel about, but other than that it wasn’t damaged and is in good condition

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure if I liked this book, or not

I love this author, and will read anything she writes, but this one didn’t do it for me. Not enough character buildup for Samson, so i really had a hard time to form an opinion of him. The instant love happened way to fast with the girls meeting for the first time, as step sisters. I finished it because, come on, it’s Colleen Hoover, and i will continue to read her books. This was a first time for me giving her books a 3*** star rating.

3.0 out of 5 stars A quick read

Definitely an interesting story but not a lot of depth to some scenes and characters. I didn’t really connect to anyone and would have loved more interaction between Beyah and her father. It was very fast paced and then ended so abruptly. Overall something to read if you want to pass the time.

the writing is super good but the ending is just BAM done , I feel like all the characters needed way more build up - it even took her the hole book to tell her dad any facts. i am mostly keeping the book because i love the cover

Don't get me wrong, it was still good. I finished it in 2 days, it would just be at the bottom of the 'alltime' list.
