2.0 out of 5 stars Aren't disc cases supposed to protect the discs within them?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 October 2019
The product picture within the Amazon listing for the Blu-ray box set of all eight seasons of House appeared to show a separate case for each season, all contained within a box. The actual packaging that was supplied was very different. It comprised of two 49mm deep cases, one containing twenty discs and the other nineteen; both cases contained within an outer box.
The idea of this is not a problem, but the way in which the discs are stored in each case very definitely is.
Each case has a pair of spindles on the inside of both front and back covers and further pairs of spindles on each side of the two internal trays, twelve spindles in total. Each pair of spindles are arranged such that the discs on one spindle overlaps the discs on the other. The major problems with these specific cases are caused by the fact that each spindle holds two discs.
Problem one is that there is no separation between the discs on a spindle, so any contamination, such as dust, can grind between them causing scratching of the playing surface.
Problem two is that to access many of the discs, three other discs must first be removed. No provision is included to temporarily store those discs, so what is supposed to be done with them to keep them safe and contamination free? This increased handling in conjunction with problem one makes it difficult to keep the discs in good condition and free from damage.
Disc cases are supposed to protect the disc from damage, not contribute to the opposite. Furthermore, removing and replacing the majority of discs within these cases can hardly be described as user-friendly, unless you happen to be an octopus!
